“HE ONCE WORE AN EAGLE SCOUT SASH — YEARS LATER, HE WORE A SOLDIER’S UNIFORM.” 🇺🇸 The life of Benjamin N. Pennington was defined by service long before he ever stepped onto a military base. As a young member of Boy Scouts of America Troop 221 at College Heights United Methodist Church, Ben earned the rank of Eagle Scout — the highest honor in scouting — a distinction achieved by only a small percentage of scouts. Years of camping trips, merit badges, and lessons about responsibility helped shape the path he would follow later in life. Those same values carried him into the United States Army, where Sgt. Pennington served with the 1st Space Battalion, 1st Space Brigade at Fort Carson. On March 1, while deployed in the Middle East, he suffered serious injuries during an incident at a military base. After holding on for several days, the 26-year-old from Glendale, Kentucky, passed away on March 8. He is now remembered as one of seven American soldiers who lost their lives in connection with the incident — a young man whose journey from Eagle Scout to U.S. Army sergeant reflected a lifetime of commitment to serving others. 🇺🇸
