BRIDGERTON CAUSES ANOTHER SENSATION: THE HOTTEST DETAIL IN LUKE THOMPSON’S STAIRCASE SCENE TURNED OUT TO HAVEN’T BEEN IN THE SCRIPT — AND THE CONSEQUENCES ARE UNCONTROLLED Viewers once believed that every glance, every breath in Bridgerton was meticulously calculated down to the second, but the truth behind the most haunting staircase scene in Season 4 is quite different. Luke Thompson made a spontaneous choice on set, without prior notice or rehearsal, relying solely on instinct during a moment of interaction with Yerin Ha, and that impromptu action completely altered the tone of the scene. The atmosphere suddenly becomes tense, intimate, and dangerous in an instant, enough for the audience to immediately sense that something has crossed familiar boundaries. Now, with the producers admitting that this scene was almost cut because it was “too real,” the reason for keeping it becomes clearer than ever: because it’s an unrepeatable moment, a gesture not on paper but blazing on screen, shaking the entire scene and becoming a moment viewers can’t stop rewinding—not because it’s perfectly staged, but because it’s too real to be removed.

Bridgerton season four has officially started production, with Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha stepping up to lead the latest installment.

Netflix shared a first look of the new couple to X on Monday with the caption: “Please rise for Sophie Baek & Benedict Bridgerton!!! Here’s your first official photo of Yerin Ha and Luke Thompson on the set of Bridgerton Season 4. Now OFFICIALLY in production.”

Bridgerton Season 4: Fans React to Sophie Forgetting Her Glove

Australian-Korean actress Ha was cast as the second half of “Benophie” earlier this month.

It marks another season of balls, petticoats and Regency-era flirting as Thompson and Ha, playing beloved characters Benedict and Sophie, lead their fellow cast members Jonathan Bailey, Simone Ashley, Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton.

Benedict, the second-eldest Bridgerton brother, is loath to settle down — until he meets a captivating Lady in Silver (or — spoiler alert! — as book fans will know her, Sophie) at his mother’s masquerade ball.

Season three of the show, which aired this summer and was led by Coughlan and Newton’s “Polin,” as it is known among the stans, smashed records as one of the streaming service’s most watched shows.

According to Netflix’s internal rankings, the first half of season three racked up 45.05 million views (total hours watched divided by running time) in the first weeks of its release worldwide.

Bridgerton' Season 4 Teases Benedict and Sophie's Steamy Bath Moment for Part 2

Showrunner Jess Brownell told The Hollywood Reporter in June that it’ll be a two-year wait before the season four airs. “We are working to try and put the seasons out more quickly, but they do take eight months to film and then they have to be edited, and then they have to be dubbed into every language,” she said. “And the writing takes a very long time as well, so we’re kind of on a two-year pace, we’re trying to speed up, but somewhere in that range.”
