It’s Charlie Hunnam like you’ve never seen him before.
The Sons of Anarchy alum, 45, is completely transformed in the promo art for Monster season 3, titled Monster: The Ed Gein Story, as the titular serial killer and grave robber.
Gein was a notorious murderer in the 1950s who not only went on a killing spree but also exhumed graves to use human remains to craft household items and clothing. His crimes are said to have inspired films like Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Silence of the Lambs.
As the posters note, before there were those movies, “there was Ed.”

Hunnam leads an all-star cast set to bring Gein’s chilling story to life.
Four-time Emmy-winning actress Laurie Metcalf will play Augusta Gein, the mother of Hunnam’s Ed.
Also in the main cast are Tom Hollander, who recently worked with Murphy by playing Truman Capote on Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, and The Idol‘s Suzanna Son.
Additional cast members include: Vicky Krieps, Olivia Williams, Lesley Manville, Joey Pollari, Charlie Hall, Tyler Jacob Moore, Mimi Kennedy, Will Brill and Robin Weigert.

The show promises to be the “most harrowing” yet in the Monster franchise.
“Serial killer. Grave robber. Psycho. In the frozen fields of 1950s rural Wisconsin, a friendly, mild-mannered recluse named Eddie Gein lived quietly on a decaying farm – hiding a house of horrors so gruesome it would redefine the American nightmare,” the logline reads.
“Driven by isolation, psychosis, and an all-consuming obsession with his mother, Gein’s perverse crimes birthed a new kind of monster that would haunt Hollywood for decades,” it continues, noting that “Gein’s macabre legacy gave birth to fictional monsters born in his image and ignited a cultural obsession with the criminally deviant.”
“Ed Gein didn’t just influence a genre — he became the blueprint for modern horror,” the logline concludes.

Monster: The Ed Gein Story is the latest Monster installment from Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan.
Monster season 1 focused on Jeffrey Dahmer, with Evan Peters in the lead role. Peters won an Emmy for his portrayal of the serial killer.
Season 2 focused on brothers Erik and Lyle Menendez, who were convicted of murdering their parents. With Cooper Koch and Nicholas Alexander Chaves playing the siblings, the show brought the Menendez brothers’ story back into the cultural spotlight.
After Hunnam’s turn leading the Monster franchise, Ella Beatty will step in for season 4 when the show focuses on Lizzie Borden, a 19th-century accused (but acquitted) murderess.
