Mum who died in Bristol house explosion after ‘Breaking Bad’ drug gang ex ‘used grenade to kill them both’ is pictured
A MUM who died after her “gangster” ex-partner allegedly killed them both with a grenade has been pictured for the first time.
Joanne Shaw, 35, died on Sunday alongside her ex-boyfriend Ryan Kelly, 41, who was previously jailed for his role in a “Breaking Bad” drug gang.
The quiet suburban street in Bristol was rocked after the “suspicious” blast at 6.30am.
Armed officers were already on their way to the property following reports of a “domestic-related incident”.
But before they could reach the home on Sterncourt Road there was an explosion, 13 minutes after the initial 999 call.
Emergency services including the British Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal and five fire engines scrambled to the scene.
Three others, thought to be Jo’s son and two other family members, were hospitalised for minor injuries but they have all since been discharged.
Neighbours told The Sun that they felt their homes shake after the blast on Sunday morning.
They added the young mum had moved to the terraced house to escape her ex-partner.
Carpenter Wayne Smith, 58, said: “He’s turned up at her house with a grenade and detonated it on the doorstep and killed the pair of them.”
Mr Smith added: “At first, when I heard the boom, I thought it was a gas explosion or even a huge car crash. I could feel the whole house shake.”
Friends paid tribute to the Jo, who was said to work at a tanning salon.
One called her “the most amazing woman I’ve ever known”.
The pal, who asked not to be named, added: “Last week she sounded so happy that she was finally safe and free from her ex.”
A neighbour said: “Joey was a wonderful woman who would always do anything for you.
“Our community is absolutely devastated by this horrific incident. We are all thinking of her and her darling son. It is so incredibly sad.“
Avon and Somerset Police said they were treating the explosion as “suspicious” and have searched another home in Bristol linked to Mr Kelly.
The force have not yet confirmed the cause of the blast.
In a statement made this afternoon, Avon and Somerset Police said: “We received a call from a person inside the property at 6.17am reporting a domestic-related incident. They stated a man, who they knew, had forced entry to the house.
“Several double-crewed units were initially dispatched to the address and the caller remained on the line.
“At approximately 6.30am, the caller told us the man was believed to be in possession of an explosive device.
“Around two minutes later an explosion occurred at the property.
“The first officers arrived at the property at 6.34am and were joined by the fire and ambulance services shortly afterwards.”
Superintendent Matt Ebbs said: “We know people will be shocked and upset to learn of the horrendous events that happened on Sunday morning.
“Jo’s death has been officially recorded as a homicide based on the information known to us at this time. We are not looking for anyone else in connection with her death.
“We know everyone’s thoughts and sympathies will be with her devastated family. Specially-trained officers are providing them with updates and support.
“We recognise there is significant interest in what happened, but at the centre of it there are many people grieving and we would please ask everyone respects that and gives them the privacy they want.”
He added that the cause of the explosion is believed to be deliberate.
There is not believed to be any further risk to public safety but police officers will remain in the area he continued.
The force revealed that previous domestic incidents had been reported to the police, and it will refer itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
Cops are combing over another home in Speedwell, Bristol, linked to Kelly, as their investigation continues.
