JEREMY CLARKSON LEFT BAFFLED ON WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE AFTER CONTESTANT FORGETS BASIC RULES — THE MOMENT THAT BROKE THE STUDIO INTO LAUGHTER What started as a smooth run through the early questions on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire quickly turned into an unexpectedly chaotic moment when a contestant appeared to lose track of one of the show’s most basic rules, leaving Jeremy Clarkson visibly confused on set. The atmosphere shifted instantly, as what should have been a straightforward lifeline decision suddenly stalled in awkward silence. But it’s the exact moment the misunderstanding unfolds that viewers are replaying — a brief exchange, a pause, and then Clarkson’s reaction that says everything without needing much explanation. That split second of confusion is what turned an ordinary quiz segment into one of the most talked-about moments of the episode…

Jeremy Clarkson confused as Who Wants To Be A Millionaire player forgets rules: ‘Useless!’

JEREMY CLARKSON had to step in and address how a player on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire had forgotten a vital rule of the game which could have cost them a huge amount of money during Tuesday’s episode.

Jeremy Clarkson, 60, picked up Tuesday’s show where things left off from Monday’s instalment of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire with contestant Callum building up quite the jackpot. The player set his safety net at £64,000 and it seemed he could be the lucky person walking away from the ITV quiz show with the full total in his back pocket. However, as the contestant hit the £500,000 checkpoint, he was dealt with a question he was unfamiliar with and used the Phone A Friend lifeline – which he thought was his last. As a result, the host had to step-in and seemed quite put off the player had forgotten help from the presenter was also an option on the cards.

The question was: “In 1930, who became the first non-American to be named Man of the Year by TIME Magazine?” with the possible answers being Joseph Stalin, Albert Einstein, Mahatma Gandhi and Haile Selassie.

After his friend failed to help him, Callum was left stumped with what to do next and was about to call it a day with £500,000 in the bank.

Jeremy then jumped in as he realised the contestant was about to make a huge error and said: “Can I just remind you of something?

“You may be maybe overexcited or you may think I’m completely useless or I may have no idea but you do still have one lifeline left.”

The player replied: “That was well reminded, I had forgotten. I thought I had used you for the Formula One question.”

“You didn’t use me – you didn’t need me for the Formula One question,” the host told Callum to which the contestant then remembered.

“You do, however, need me, I suspect [for this one],” he continued before the player said: “I will of course [need you].

Jeremy then added: “It would be silly to just go home because you’d never know if I knew it or not,” which led the quizzing amateur to use his Ask the Host lifeline.

“Okay, because I was feeling a little bit hurt,” the presenter joked, with Callum apologising for “forgetting the rules”.

Finally giving his take on the question, Jeremy revealed: “I’ve got some good news. I know who all those four people are.

“The bad news is I don’t know which one of them was the first non-American to be named Man of the Year.”

After a moments pause, the host then added: “I’m just trying to go through my head. I mean I can barely remember where I parked my car.

“I’m just trying to see if there is anything I can remember,” before going through the names before him one more time.

Rounding off his commentary, the host remarked: “Look, I really wish I could help you. God, I wish, I wish, I wish.

“But Callum, I am so sorry. Albert Einstein is my final answer,” he added, but with Jeremy not completely supporting his own choice, the contestant decided to end the game.

With £250,000 guaranteed, the player told the host he would have gone for Stalin if he’d been brave enough to lock the answer down.

However, the presenter replied he would have gone home with £64,000 because the correct choice would have been Gandhi.

Taking to Twitter, those watching at home thought Callum had it in him to go all the way and win a £1 million.

One viewer posted: “I get the feeling this guy wins the million. I hope he does. #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire.”

Another added: “Gutted Callum didn’t go all the way. He was b****y brilliant #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire.”

Whilst a third commented: “I thought Callum was going to do it! But fair play [quarter] a million is amazing!! #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire.”

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire continues Wednesday at 9pm on ITV.
