The Princess of Wales spoke about her passion for maternal mental health during a recent visit to Powys, while the Prince of Wales issued a sweet response to one well-wisher who issued a very sweet statement about the Royal Family’s future. Prince William and Kate met with volunteer groups at Hafan yr Afon, a cultural, community and heritage center in Newtown.
Kate engaged with members of Mums Matter, a perinatal support service for women experiencing mental health challenges related to early motherhood. Ella Hopkins, 25, shared with the princess how she started volunteering with the organization after fleeing domestic violence with her 10-month-old son Marcus.
She said: “The princess was absolutely incredible, you could tell she was really passionate about the cause as well. She got really invested, she was asking lots of questions, you could tell she thought it was an important thing to be focusing on.
It comes as Prince William and Kate are forced to make a huge ‘compromise’ for the royal family.
“She definitely said that it’s something that she said felt passionate about, parents being able to be committed and devoted through their own stability.”
The royal couple also stopped by Oriel Davies, a public contemporary art gallery located in Newtown.
They explored the Hand in Hand art project, a community program developed jointly by the gallery and Syrian and Afghan families residing in Newtown and the surrounding region, reports the Daily Star.
“It’s amazing what’s happening here,” Kate told the families. “It must be such a lovely way to make friends and share stories.”
Whilst touring the gallery, she was gifted a necklace made by children at an art workshop earlier that Thursday.
The royal family is navigating a tumultuous time with the arrest of William’s uncle Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
Despite this, the prince and princess were warmly greeted in Newtown and took time to engage with fans on the street during their visit, stopping three times.
Jill Christofides, 65, reassured William “the monarchy is safe in your hands”.
“With all that is going on at the moment, there could be a swell against,” she shared with reporters later.
“But I think when you see the time that he’s willing to spend with the people, I think it’s lovely to see.
“He said ‘thank you, that’s very sweet of you’.”
