This is the moment a killer sobbed in the dock during his murder trial as the court was shown CCTV of his girlfriend’s final moments before he stabbed her 26 times.

Aren Pearson, 41, was jailed for 25 years for killing Claire Leveque, 24, in a horrifying assault in the hot tub of a garage at a property in Shetland on February 11, 2024.

Canadian national Ms Leveque suffered 55 separate injuries as Pearson repeatedly stabbed her in the head, neck and body, and inflicted blunt force trauma on her.

Now, a new Channel 5 documentary starting at 9pm tonight has revealed rare in-court footage from the eight-day trial, filmed at Edinburgh‘s High Court last October.

An exclusive clip from ‘Murder In Shetland: Trial By Jury’ shared with the Daily Mail today shows the court being shown CCTV of Pearson and Claire before the incident.

They are seen driving up to a service station shop and going inside. Neither appears to have any injuries, and they buy a white bottle of alcohol with a gold-coloured top.

As the courtroom watches the footage, Pearson can be seen crying as he puts his face down into his hand – while other members of the public are also in tears.

Among them is Ms Leveque’s cousin Hope Ingram, who travelled from Edmonton to attend the trial and later says: ‘When I first saw the footage it was so hard to keep it together in the courtroom, but it was kind of nice because I got to see Claire again.’
