‘STRANGER THINGS’ SEASON 5 FIRST REVIEW: SHAWN LEVY CALLS THE FINALE A “MASTERPIECE” — AND IT WAS A BEHIND-THE-SCENES DETAIL THAT MADE THE CAST “CRY” BEFORE THE FINAL SCENE. In the dim orange light of a set built to look like Hawkins collapsing, Shawn Levy emerged from the editing room looking both exhausted and beaming, telling the crew that the Stranger Things Season 5 finale was “a masterpiece — there was nothing left to edit.” Those present said the atmosphere was thick with fog, as everyone understood this was the end of an era in television. As the actors entered the set to film the final scene, many were in tears — not because of the tragedy of the story, but because of the real-life moment that had just crept between them: Shawn had shown a special footage, recording the cast’s journey from season 1 to now. “When the screen went black, no one could say a word,” said a crew member. It was that moment that made them act out their final scene with a different weight — so real, raw, and emotional that the crew described it as “no more acting, they just had to breathe.” And what made Shawn Levy sure the finale was a masterpiece — the single moment where he said ‘we finally got it

Filmmaker, Shawn Levy reviews Stranger Things Season 5

Recently, popular filmmaker, Shawn Levy sat down for a conversation with Collider and while having a candid conversation, he spoke about the final episode of Stranger Things Season 5 and called it a ‘masterpiece’. For those who don’t know, Shawn directed a few episodes in the last 4 seasons of the show. However, he wasn’t a part of Season 5, because of other commitments. While reviewing the show, Shawn Levy shared:

“Having watched the final version of the final episode of the final season of Stranger Things, it is a masterpiece. The Duffers have stuck that landing. So 10 out of 10 perfect. And I know it sounds like I’m kind of promoting my own show, but this is really said with just deference and tremendous respect to Matt and Ross, who wrote and directed that finale episode. And it is so deeply satisfying and moving. I have to say, it wrecked me.”

In the same interview, Shawn Levy continued to praise the Duffer Brothers, who have created the show, Stranger Things Season 5. He shared that the brothers should be proud of their work, as they have created something very magical. He further stated that the brothers are finally getting what they deserve from the audience. He was quoted as saying:

“They’re proud of their work, and they goddamn should be. That episode- like, when was a series finale in movie theaters? What a singular, beautiful, rare thing that is. It’s because this series, and that episode in particular, really earned that right. And I think it deserves it.”

Why didn’t Shawn Levy return in Stranger Things Season 5?

Shawn Levy has been an active part of the supernatural show, Stranger Things. However, if reports are to be believed, the filmmaker did not direct any episodes of the final season. During the same candid conversation with Collider, Shawn opened up about the same and revealed:

“It just became clear that, okay, they don’t have time to do the whole thing, I don’t have time to do the whole thing. So we decided, you know what? It’s 10 years of this brotherhood. What if we share directing duties? We sort of each ended up directing half of that episode and sharing credit. And I’ll be honest with you, there’s something that feels good and right to us seeing our names on that directing card, because it’s been very much this brotherhood of collaboration over a lot of years. And I’m thrilled it worked out that way.”
