‘Stranger Things’ Season 5: Final Four Episode Runtimes Revealed (Yes, The Finale Is Huge)
Credit: Netflix
Netflix has finally revealed the runtimes for the final four episodes of Stranger Things Season 5. The runtimes for the first four episodes were no slouch, but they weren’t as long as the rumors suggested.
Fans were circulating runtimes for Volume 1 that exceeded two hours, but the longest episode of the bunch was just over an hour. Here were the runtimes for the first four episodes:
- Chapter One: The Crawl – 1 hour and 8 minutes
- Chapter Two: The Vanishing of Holly Wheeler – 54 minutes
- Chapter Three: The Turnbow Trap – 1 hour and 6 minutes
- Chapter Four: Sorcerer – 1 hour and 23 minutes
These were long episodes, but not outrageously so, and the Duffer Brothers did a good job pacing them out (after something of an admittedly slow start, designed to let exposition remind us of what came before).

Stranger Things Season 5 Final Four Episode Runtimes

Here are the runtimes for Stranger Things Volume 2, which releases on Christmas Day at 5pm PT / 8pm ET:
- Chapter Five: Shock Jock – 1 hour and 8 minutes
- Chapter Six: Escape From Camazotz – 1 hour and 15 minutes
- Chapter Seven: The Bridge – 1 hour and 6 minutes
And here is the runtime for the series finale, which releases on New Year’s Eve at 5pm PT / 8pm ET:
- Chapter Eight: The Rightside Up – 2 hours and 8 minutes
This is actually significantly shorter than Season 4’s finale, “The Piggyback,” which was nearly 2.5 hours long.
Curiously, the first episode of Volume 2 is the exact same length as the first episode of Volume 1 and the same is true of the third episode of each volume (episodes 3 and 7).

I’m actually glad that the finale isn’t as long as Season 4’s final episode, which was too long for its own good. 2 hours and 8 minutes is a good length for a feature film, and since audiences can actually watch the finale in theaters, this makes that a less grueling experience.
I quite enjoyed Stranger Things Season 5, Volume 1 after being somewhat disappointed by the second Volume of Season 4. I especially liked the Camazotz storyline with Max (Sadie Sink) and Holly (Nell Fisher). Camazotz is a reference to Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle In Time, one of my favorite YA sci-fi/fantasy novels and series.
I also loved what they did with Will (Noah Schnapp) finally giving him powers to rival those of Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and an exciting role to play in the final four episodes.
And newcomer Jake Connelly, who plays young Derek, is a real gem. I hope he survives the season, unlike so many other newly introduced characters over the years. (Yes, I’m still salty about Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn).
Still, no subsequent season has ever lived up to the perfection of Season 1.
