The forecast for The Pitt’s 4th of July-themed sophomore run calls for fireworks — and lots of them — as the prodigal son returns to Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center.

HBO Max has released the first trailer for Season 2 of the TCA Award-winning medical drama, which previews Dr. Frank Langdon’s first day back at PTMC following a stint in rehab. And the whole gang’s here — McKay, Javadi, Mohan, Whitaker, Santos, and charge nurse Dana — to potentially witness all hell break loose once Robby and Langdon cross paths.

When Season 2 begins, we find out that it’s Robby’s last day before he embarks on a three-month sabbatical, and he was “really hoping not to see [Langdon] today — but something got screwed up in the scheduling, so they ended up overlapping,” series star/executive producer Noah Wyle previously disclosed to Vanity Fair. “Langdon has walked the penitent road, and he has done everything he needs to do to keep his medical license in check. He’s going to face his colleagues, who may or may not know that he had an addiction problem. All of that is very commendable. But there’s a personal betrayal that Robby feels that is going to be even harder for him to get up and over on the other side of.”

The teaser trailer also offers quick glimpses of another intense shift in the emergency department — and not just due to personnel drama. We see a combative patient in the back of an ambulance, and a pair of police officers chasing after someone by the nurses’ station. Those quick flashes culminate in our first look at new attending Dr. Al-Hashimi (played by The L Word: Generation Q’s Sepideh Moafi), and a new med student (Laëtitia Hollard) who asks, “You guys do this every day?”

“If we’re lucky,” Santos replies.

The Pitt Season 2

Executive producer John Wells previously told The Hollywood Reporter that The Pitt Season 2 will premiere Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026 — one year after the release of the series premiere. However, HBO Max has only confirmed that Season 2 will launch “in a similar time frame” to Season 1 — and an official date announcement will come later.
