Fresh controversy is once again surrounding former BIGBANG member Seungri, as new allegations suggest he may be connected to illicit activities in Southeast Asia — with claims that echo the infamous Burning Sun scandal that ended his career in South Korea.

On January 20, investigative journalist Oh Hyuk Jin released an exclusive report via his YouTube channel Jirit Jirit, detailing information he says he has received regarding Seungri’s recent movements and associations. The video also references figures previously linked to high-profile scandals, including Hwang Hana and Park Yoochun, intensifying public concern.

Alleged Criminal Associations in Cambodia

According to Oh, multiple tips allege that Seungri has been in contact with individuals involved in money laundering, voice phishing scams, illegal gambling operations, and organized criminal networks operating in Cambodia. The report claims Seungri was seen socializing and allegedly holding meetings with senior figures tied to these groups.

Oh suggested these interactions may not be coincidental.

“There is a possibility that business discussions were taking place,” Oh stated in the video. “It appears as though there was an attempt to recreate a ‘Burning Sun–style’ operation in Cambodia.”

However, the journalist also pointed out a critical complication: the alleged financial backer behind such operations has reportedly already been arrested and is facing extradition to China — raising questions about whether any such plan could realistically move forward.

Leveraging BIGBANG’s Name Abroad

While Seungri’s reputation in South Korea remains severely damaged, Oh noted that the former idol still retains residual name recognition in parts of Southeast Asia, where BIGBANG’s legacy continues to carry influence.

According to sources cited in the report, Seungri has been frequently traveling between multiple countries, with Thailand reportedly serving as his primary base. Oh claimed that Seungri may be exploiting his status as a former BIGBANG member in regions where public awareness of his past scandals is less severe.

“In Korea, his image has collapsed,” Oh said. “But in Southeast Asia, the BIGBANG name still holds weight — and that appears to be what he is relying on.”

A Familiar Name Behind the Investigation

Oh Hyuk Jin is no stranger to the Burning Sun case. He was the first journalist to report on the November 2018 assault incident at the Burning Sun nightclub, an event that ultimately triggered a nationwide investigation and led to Seungri’s downfall.

His renewed involvement has fueled intense online reaction, with netizens drawing parallels between the original scandal and the newly alleged activities — despite the absence of formal charges at this time.

No Official Charges — Yet

As of now, no law enforcement agency has confirmed the allegations outlined in the report, and Seungri has not issued a public response. The claims remain unverified, though the investigation has already sparked widespread discussion across Korean and international online communities.

Given Seungri’s history and the gravity of the accusations, many observers note that even unproven allegations continue to reignite public outrage — and underscore how deeply the Burning Sun scandal still resonates.

Whether these claims lead to official investigations remains to be seen. But once again, Seungri finds himself at the center of allegations that threaten to reopen one of K-pop’s darkest chapters.
