G-Dragon and Yang Hyun Suk cleared of copyright infringement allegations as police drop the case

BIGBANG‘s G-Dragon and YG Entertainment chief producer Yang Hyun Suk have been cleared of copyright infringement allegations.
On October 7, Korean media reported that the Seoul Mapo Police Station decided on April 7 not to forward the case to prosecutors, concluding that there were no charges against G-Dragon, Yang Hyun Suk, and the others named in the complaint. The police explained that it was difficult to recognize any intent to infringe on copyright.
The case began in November 2024, when a composer identified only as A filed a complaint with the police. A claimed that a song he composed and arranged, titled ‘G-DRAGON,’ had been included on a 2001 hip hop compilation album on which G-Dragon took part as the youngest member at age 13. According to the complaint, the song was later used without permission at G-Dragon’s 2009 solo concert and then released under a different title, ‘My Age Is 13,’ on the live album ‘Shine a Light’ in 2010. A also argued that his name was left out of the credits when the title was changed.
During the investigation, the police searched YG Entertainment’s headquarters in Mapo-gu, Seoul, and other locations twice last year.
YG Entertainment denied the allegations from the start. The agency explained that two songs with the same title were performed together at the 2009 concert, and that A’s song was listed as ‘My Age Is 13,’ a phrase taken from the first line of its lyrics, simply to tell the two tracks apart. YG stressed that there was never any intention to copy the song without permission or to infringe on its copyright.
With the police decision, G-Dragon and Yang Hyun Suk have officially put the dispute, which lasted about a year and five months, behind them.
