As Bridgerton Season 4 prepares to focus on Benedict (Luke Thompson) and Sophie’s (Yerin Ha) Cinderella-inspired romance, fans are voicing frustration over what’s missing. The new trailer suggests Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate (Simone Ashley) are stepping back from the ton, sparking backlash over the absence of the fan-favorite pair.

The Netflix series pushing away prior starring characters has happened before with Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon (Regé-Jean Page), but fans are not pleased that Kate and Anthony are receiving the same treatment. Their love story occurred in Season 2, with Anthony and Kate becoming the new heads of the Bridgerton household.

Despite the trailer for Season 4 revealing that the grand masquerade takes place in their home, they have seemingly been written out with no explanation. Fans claim the two characters are one of the series’ biggest draws-ins that have been shunned without merit.

“The absurdity of this production writing Kate and Anthony out of Part 1 yet being too cheap to relocate the Bridgertons to a new residence so you have everyone & their mothers hosting balls and living it up at K & A’s house while the viscount & viscountess are nowhere to be seen,” said one fan on X.

“i knew about the lack of kanthony screentime going into the trailer but the fact that i saw more of violet and marcus than kanthony or michaela stirling fills me with a unique kind of rage,” said another.

Another added, “yeah sorry but kanthony were clearly a huge draw last season and i feel like excluding them so blatantly after the GA’s response to s3 is a bad choice not even to start fandom arguments but solely from a business standpoint.”

Some fans claim the reasoning for their absence was explained in the prior season, with them venturing to India due to Kate’s pregnancy. Another reason floating around is Bailey’s scheduling conflicts, as he starred in Wicked.

“clearly we understand kathony had their season… but it truly doesn’t make sense that the VISCOUNT and VISCOUNTESS bridgerton, the literal HEADS of the household are nowhere to be seen lmao,” said one fan.
