Emily in Paris Season 5 premiered on December 18. Lily Collins revealed that she felt extremely exhausted while filming this season due to sleepless nights caring for her newborn child.
The popular yet controversial Netflix series about an American girl living in Paris has received no shortage of criticism since its debut in 2020.
Season 5 of Emily in Paris has returned on Netflix, with the enthusiastic American marketing executive continuing her journey of self-discovery in Europe. Paris? That was last season.
Now, Emily — played by Lily Collins — with her colorful, sometimes over-the-top fashion sense and perfectly styled power bob, is preparing to conquer the capital of Italy.
Emily in Paris Season 5 May Receive Less Backlash Than Previous Seasons
Season 5 consists of 10 episodes and follows Emily as she temporarily leaves Paris for Rome, Italy, to manage a new office of Agence Grateau. She is still dating Marcello Murator (Eugenio Franceschini), a dreamy Italian fashion heir.
The series also stars Lucas Bravo, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Ashley Park, Samuel Arnold, Bruno Gouery, and Camille Razat.
Emily in Paris is helmed by director Darren Star, who is also known for hit series such as Sex and the City, Beverly Hills, 90210, and Melrose Place.

One of Emily in Paris’s greatest strengths is its willingness to acknowledge that its main character is genuinely annoying — and Season 5 is no exception.
Many of the show’s best episodes feature Emily receiving a much-needed “wake-up call,” allowing her to slow down and admit that her excessive enthusiasm can be negative or even toxic.
By Season 5, Emily appears more relaxed while still retaining her trademark determination, making this perhaps the best version of the character to date. The same can be said for the season itself, as Emily in Paris proudly embraces its identity as a fun, light-hearted entertainment series.
Collider noted that this season may receive less backlash from viewers compared to previous installments.

However, according to The Independent, the voice-over narration carries much of the burden of establishing context, with everything explained clearly for viewers who are half-watching TV while scrolling on their phones.
“Setting all of that aside, watching Emily in Paris feels like allowing your brain to regress right before your eyes.
Watching this show is no different from reliving the Barbie doll games I used to play with my sisters — everyone wears glamorous outfits and every event unfolds according to a dreamlike logic,” wrote a critic from The Independent.

Lily Collins Was Extremely Exhausted While Filming Season 5
Lily Collins recently welcomed her first child via surrogate earlier this year, and stepping into motherhood has been anything but easy.
She told The Sun that she felt “very exhausted” while filming this season, and being on set was a challenge due to sleepless nights caring for her newborn.
“This is a battle, and I’m truly grateful that I can do both at the same time. I told everyone this year: ‘I’m usually really good at remembering things, I’m good at learning lines, but this year please bear with me. I haven’t slept, I’m very tired, and I might not be at my best,’” she shared with The Sun.
Lily Collins announced her engagement to American director and screenwriter Charlie McDowell in September 2020, and the couple married a year later, in September 2021.
