Lucien Laviscount may not know who Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) ends up with on Emily in Paris — but he certainly knows who one person it shouldn’t be: him.

The Coronation Street alum, 33, exclusively told PEOPLE on Sept. 9 at an event at The Chelsea Hotel in New York City celebrating John Varvatos’ 25th anniversary and the launch of the brand’s newest fragrance, John Varvatos XX Elixir, that he doesn’t ship Emily with his character, Alfie.

“After the craziness that’s gone on in that relationship, I’m like, ‘Girl, pack up and move out,'” he jokes of the former lovers.

Emily first met Alfie in her French class in Paris back in season 2, and he quickly joined the elite group of handsome heartthrobs to steal her heart on the Netflix series.

When fans last saw the British banker in season 4, he was happy in a new relationship and encouraging everyone’s favorite brooding French chef, Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), not to let Emily get away — even if that meant chasing her to Rome.

It’s this outspokenness and sincerity that Laviscount says he relates to the most about Alfie.

“I think Alfie kind of always speaks his truth,” he shares. “Which, I’d like to say, is a trait of mine. In the most difficult situations, he speaks the truth. I’d like to say I’m pretty similar in that respect.”

As for the differences? “I think we’ve probably dressed a little bit different, but that’s Alfie, and I love playing Alfie,” he gushes.

Overall, Laviscount says “it’s been cool” playing Alfie the last few years on Emily in Paris, and notes that the character has “been an amazing kind of part of my life now.”

In addition to Laviscount, Collins and Bravo, Emily in Paris also stars Philippine Leroy-BeaulieuAshley Park, Samuel Arnold, Bruno Gouery, William Abadie, Eugenio Franceschini, Thalia Besson, Paul Forman and Arnaud Binard.

Bryan Greenberg, Michèle Laroque and Minnie Driver also join the Darren Star-created series as new cast members for season 5.
