Stranger Things‘ Noah Schnapp has shared a sweet birthday message for co-star and “mom” Winona Ryder on her birthday.

Schnapp took to his Instagram Stories on October 29 to mark the Beetlejuice star’s birthday. He posted a picture of them hugging on the red carpet with the caption: “Happy birthday to the best on-stage mom I could ever ask for. Love you so much Noni.”

Ryder and Schnapp have been playing mother-son duo Joyce and Will Byers on Netflix’s sci-fi teen drama since 2016.

They’re set to reprise their roles for the show’s fifth and final instalment expected to come to the streamer next year, though it is subjected to delays amidst the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

Meanwhile, it seems the show’s writers are back at work as they previously posted from the writers’ room to celebrate the WGA reaching a tentative agreement with the studios at the end of September.

As for Schnapp, the actor recently credited his portrayal of Will for helping him come to terms with his sexuality.

Last August, the Bridge of Spies star explained he would still be “closeted” had he not played Will, who’s been hinted at being queer throughout the show.

“Once I did fully embrace that Will was gay, it was just an exponential speed towards accepting it for myself,” Schnapp told Variety two months after attending his first Pride parade.

“I would be in a completely different place if I didn’t have Will to portray, and to embrace and help me accept myself. I think if I never played that character, I probably would still be closeted.”
