HARRY POTTER TV SERIES: WILL JAMES POTTER BECOME A “RACIAL BIGOT” DUE TO SEVERUS SNAPE’S NEW LOOK?
The heat around the Harry Potter TV Series project is at an all-time high as the first images of the cast are being revealed. However, the main focus right now is not on the iconic trio of young wizards but rather on the “Half-Blood Prince” Severus Snape.
A “Strange” Snape Steps Out from the Trailer
In J.K. Rowling’s original works, Snape is described as a boy with an unhappy childhood, growing up in poverty, with a thin, pale appearance and greasy black hair. He is also the unfortunate victim of relentless bullying for seven years at Hogwarts by the Marauders, led by James Potter.
However, the TV series took fans by surprise by introducing Snape as a character with a darker complexion. This change has inadvertently put James Potter in a morally precarious situation.
🔥 The Dilemma: Is James Potter a “School Bully” or a “Racist”?
An intense debate has erupted online: If Snape is portrayed as a skinny, weaker student of color who is constantly humiliated and bullied by James Potter, then James is no longer just a “school bully.” In the context of modern-day culture, this behavior could easily be labeled as racism — a “stain” that could overshadow the heroic father figure of Harry Potter.
💡 Two “Desperate” and Hilarious Fan Theories
To save James Potter from the label of racism, fans have come up with two possible (and somewhat amusing) theories:
Option 1: “Color Blindness” — Make James Potter a person of color! In theory, if both the bully and the victim are of the same race, the racism charge would automatically disappear. However, fans are now struggling with the question: If James is of color, Lily is white, and their son Harry is… as pale as ever, how would this be explained? This is a genetic puzzle only Lily could answer!
Option 2: “Love and Hate” Plot Twist — Completely change the motive behind the bullying. The twist is that Snape actually “fell in love” with James at first sight. The fights and bullying were just a way to get his attention, but in the end, Lily wins the race to win the heart of the Gryffindor heartthrob.
Though these are just fun fan speculations, it’s clear that altering the racial identity of iconic characters has created some tricky dilemmas for the producers. How will HBO handle this challenge, maintaining the original spirit while avoiding sensitive controversies?
