Kit Harington ‘genuinely angered’ by ‘idiotic’ fan petition to remake final season of Game Of Thrones – fuming ‘how dare you?!

Kit Harington has been left ‘genuinely angered’ and slammed a fan petition that has called for the final season of Game Of Thrones to be remade as ‘idiotic’.

The actor, who played Jon Snow in the HBO series until it came to an end in 2019, hit out at viewers for signing the petition, which has amassed more than 1.8million signatures.

Kit, 39, hit out against the fan-led appeal, which started with a goal of just 15,000 signatures, following widespread anger at the way the series came to an end.

The final episode saw some diehard fans of the franchise hit out that season eight felt ‘rushed’, and moved away from the books, written by George R. R. Martin.

The finale sees the death of both Kit’s Jon Snow, and Emilia Clarke‘s ‘Mad Queen’ Daenerys Targaryen – while Isaac Hempstead Wright’s Bran Snow became king.

The petition reads: ‘David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on.

‘This series deserves a final season that makes sense. Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!’

Speaking to the New York Times, Kit responded: ‘That genuinely angered me. Like, how dare you? Sorry, that’s just how I feel. I think it was a level of idiocy that can only come about through social media.

‘There are very, very few downsides to having a hugely popular show, but one I can think of is when you try to end it, many people have big opinions on how it should end.

‘The petition shows a lot of enthusiasm and passion for the show, but it wasn’t something that we seriously considered.’

Kit is not the only star from the show to have hit back against the petition, with Bran actor Isaac, 26, previously slamming it as ‘ridiculous’.

Within just hours of the final ever instalment of Game of Thrones, more than a million people signed the Change.org petition entitled ‘Remake Game of Thrones Season 8 with competent writers’.

Isaac told the Hollywood Reporter: ‘It’s just absurd. I can’t even fathom it. It’s just ridiculous.

‘It’s ridiculous that people think they can just demand a different ending because they don’t like it. I have stupidly taken it quite personally, which obviously I shouldn’t.’

The star also went on to disclose that he was a fan of the conclusion, adding that it was a ‘great ending’.

Discussing how Daenerys’s downfall had actually been documented in previous seasons, he continued: ‘People have complained there wasn’t enough foreshadowing but time upon time, she’s demonstrated a capacity to be quite brutal.

He added that Emilia Clarke’s character had waited ‘years and years’ to get to Westeros and take what is hers, adding that she had to fight an army of ‘literal dead people.’

Explaining the losses she’s endured, he recalled how she was nearly killed and had lost Jorah and Missandei along the way, as well as being mad that her love interest Jon Snow has a better claim to the Iron Throne than her.

He added: ‘She’s sick of it. She’s p***ed off and she’s lost her mind’, stating that her changes are ‘genuine character development’.

Isaac’s words came as another star of the franchise has weighed in on the petition.

Jacob Anderson, who plays Grey Worm, told TMZ that the backlash ‘sucks’, and also branded the negative reaction ‘insulting’ to the cast and crew who have worked so hard on the production.

Meanwhile, petition creator Dylan D opened up about his appeal going viral and explained that it was originally supposed to be a way he could vent.

He said: ‘I was just so disappointed and angry. It was simply me venting a bit. I think this message is one of frustration and disappointment at its core.’

The Texas native continued: ‘There is so much awful crap going on in the world, people like me need to escape into things like Star Wars and Game of Thrones.

‘We fans invested a wealth of passion and time into this series… I love this story, and I, like most of you, was crushed to see how the last season (and season 7, let’s be real) has been handled.

‘I didn’t make this petition to be an entitled, whiny fan. I made it because I was immensely disappointed and needed to vent.

‘Do I have a solution? I’ve got plenty of ideas, but no, I’m not a Hollywood writer. But you don’t need to be a mechanic to know your car is broken.’

Game Of Thrones is available to stream on NOW.
