Landman Season 2 Finale: Tommy’s New Oil Company Explained
Instead of taking a new job at Chevron or another oil company, Tommy decided to see if he had “one more home run” left in him, and took a chance on starting his own oil company. Now that it’s clear that Tommy is done with M-Tex, and since Landman season 3 has already been confirmed, getting to know Tommy’s new oil company is going to be crucial to understanding what’s next for the show.
Tommy Starts A New Oil Company In Landman Season 2’s Finale
Instead of taking a job at another oil company, Tommy made a few big moves to start his own oil company. First, he had Nate dissolve the contract that gave Cooper’s land leases over to M-Tex, as Cooper didn’t have an attorney present. M-Tex had still paid off the land buyout, however, so Tommy then went to Gallino (Andy Garcia) to secure $44 million to pay M-Tex back with interest. He also got $18 million to drill new wells on the land.
Once Tommy had the funding from Gallino secured, he had to come up with a name for his oil company on the spot. Since two corporations can’t have the same name, and since Tommy didn’t have time to make sure he had a valid name before Gallino made out the check, he chose CTT Oil Exploration & Cattle. CTT isn’t actually involved in cattle (yet), but Tommy thought that part of the name was too stupid to be in use by another company.

What Happens To Cami & M-Tex In Landman Season 3
CTT Oil Exploration & Cattle’s future seems fairly clear: Tommy, Cooper, and TL are going to have to work together as a family to make the company work and turn it into a success story. What isn’t as clear is Cami and M-Tex’s fate in Landman season 3. After all, Cami’s plan to rebuild the offshore rig only has a 10% chance of success, and Tommy listed out several problems that could hinder them even if they do find gas.
More likely than not, Cami’s gamble won’t pay off, and M-Tex is either going to be sold or go bankrupt in Landman season 3. Nate tried to convince Cami to sell the company while she still can, as Monty’s plan was always to sell the company for a profit. She may finally listen to reason in time, but it’s also very possible that she sees her gamble through to the end and goes down with the sinking ship that is M-Tex.
