Maya Hawke spoke up while filming the final season of Stranger Things.
In the new Netflix documentary, One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5, fans get a behind-the-scenes look at the season, and at one point, Hawke, 27, asks a pretty pivotal question to director Shawn Levy.
While filming the scene where Robin (Hawke), Vickie (Amybeth McNulty), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) and Max (Sadie Sink) are hiding in the laundry room while the demodogs hunt Max, Hawke pointed out to Levy that her relationship status wasn’t clear.
“I have a question. It hasn’t been talked about very much in any of the scenes that we’ve all been in together — no one knows that we’re dating, including Caleb,” she said, referring to the secret relationship between her and McNulty’s characters on-screen.

“And I would like to play this scene in a whisper — I would like to do this,” she said, moving her face close to McNulty’s.
Levy, 57, didn’t exactly acknowledge the plot hole that Hawke pointed out, but said that what Hawke suggested was “good.”
Robin and Vickie’s relationship was a crucial piece of the final season as it played a role in Will (Noah Schnapp) coming out.
It was only after he saw Robin and Vickie kissing in the hospital and then asked Robin about it, which led her to tell him the story about her first crush, Tammy, and what she realized about herself, that Will was able to accept himself, and by doing so, he accessed his powers to attack Vecna.
Hawke, who joined the show in season 3 and quickly became part of the fray thanks to her friendship with Steve (Joe Keery), told The Hollywood Reporter she was “so happy” with how her character’s story wrapped up in the finale.
“It was the happiest I’d been in any read-throughs on the show. I thought it was overwhelmingly beautiful,” she said.

“My last day was my favorite day on my entire history of Stranger Things. And it was also one of the most heartbreaking and emotional days,” Hawke continued. “What’s going to stick with me most are these people. The friendships that have come out of this that I never would have expected, more than my wildest dreams.”
She compared the cast’s bond to a “graduating class” as she said, “I feel bonded to these people forever and that we will always have each other, as people who knew us as we were forming into ourselves. I think for a lot of people, that’s what their college friends are like. And for us, that’s this.”
