Warning: Spoilers ahead for Stranger Things season 5, volume 1Stranger Things season 5, volume 2 is set to be released later this month (December 25), and fans are already getting a first look at what they can expect after the explosive volume 1 finale, “Sorcerer.”

In an exclusive Stranger Things edition of their magazine, SFX has released first-look images of Volume 2 showcasing their favorite characters as they prepare to battle Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) one last time.

Volume 1 ended with Will Byers (played by Noah Schnapp) discovering unearthed powers and saving his mother Joyce (Winona Ryder), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), and Robin (Maya Hawke).

In the new images released ahead of Volume 2, Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) is using Hawkins’ radio station as her base alongside the gang and is seen trying to get into someone’s mind. Perhaps, it could be hinting at locating Vecna or even Max (Sadie Sink), as she’s trapped in Vecna’s mindscape alongside Mike and Nancy’s sister, Holly (Nell Fisher).

Another image shows Mike, Will, and Joyce in what appears to be the aftermath of episode 4, as Will killed three demogorgans. Images also show Vecna’s other persona, Mr. Whotsit, who’s been kidnapping children by luring them in with charm and gifts. Vecna successfully managed to capture the children during episode 4, but it’s clear the fight is far from over.

Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer have confirmed in an interview with Deadline that Volume 2 will focus on Vecna’s memories, and with one of the episodes titled “Escape from Camazotz,” which refers to what Holly calls Vecna’s mindscape, it could lead the way for Max to finally return to Hawkins and help defeat Vecna once and for all.

Fans have been predicting who will survive the dangers of season 5, as it’s the final season and a big final battle. With Will’s new powers and how he’s channeling Vecna, it’s been an ongoing point that Will could potentially meet his end. Will was kidnapped during season 1, which was shown in season 5 as a flashback, and Volume 2 will show exactly why he was taken.

Volume 1 of Stranger Things season 5 is now available on Netflix. Volume 2 is set to release on December 25, with the series finale coming to Netflix on December 31.
