“Nobody Wants To Do It”: ‘Landman’s Ali Larter Hates Filming One Type of Scene in Taylor Sheridan’s Hit Series
At 49, Larter has spent many years in front of the camera, and that is something that will always help build up a resistance to the many types of scenes required in whatever role comes along next. However, the actress also revealed that it brings a certain insecurity when her character spends so much time wearing very little clothing. She told PEOPLE:
“I don’t think there is an actress alive that’s like, ‘Woo! Got a bikini scene!’. Nobody wants to do it. Those are the hardest for me. I don’t enjoy them. It’s just part of the story I’m telling, and I’m an actress, so I get on board. But those are definitely my least favorite.
But no matter what, it’s like, I’ve got to spend all this time fighting off my insecurities, my own anxiety, to be able to put on that bikini and walk into these scenes.”
While one of the major criticisms from viewers about Season 2 of Landman has been the increased focus on Angela and her daughter, Ainsley (Michelle Randolph), Larter has put everything into the character, including spending a lot of time ensuring that the scenes she hates are filmed with her in peak condition. Before Season 2 aired, Larter revealed that she was “up at 4:30” in the morning to do a 30-minute run, and tries to “eat clean” in order to give her the boost she needs to get through her bikini scenes.
‘Landman’s Biggest Gripe Has Centered on Angela and Ainsley Norris
There is no way of denying that Landman has very quickly cemented a place in the world as one of Taylor Sheridan’s most popular shows. It broke records with its first season, only to shatter them all over again with its second. With Season 3 in production, this time next year, Landman will once again be riding high on Paramount+. However, Season 2’s huge viewership was slightly marred by a rapid decline in review scores.
Landman Season 2 scored just 44% on the audience Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes, down from 65% the previous season. The main reason for the drop? Many could just not get past the amount of time the new season spent on the “cringiest” roles on TV. Some compared Season 2 to having “Real Housewives vibes” after giving off more Breaking Bad ones in its first season. Taylor Sheridan has previously been called out for how some of his female characters have been treated, or even sidelined, in the past, but it seems that in trying to put two female characters in a more prominent role has not worked out this time either.
