The Terrifying Truth Behind Will’s Abduction: Duffer Brothers Expose the Long-Hidden Secret That the Demogorgon Couldn’t Have Opened the Byers’ Door — Leaving Only One Possibility: Someone Else Was Inside Stranger Things From the Very Beginning. The Mystery Has Haunted the Series for 8 Years, and Season 5 Will Reveal the Mind-Bending Identity Behind the Door…

The Duffer Brothers Finally Confirm the Truth Behind Will Byers’ Door — And Reveal the One Mystery Season 5 Will Finally Answer

Byers' chain lock was opened by telekinesis twice. Coincinence? I think not! [theory] : r/StrangerThings

More than eight years after Stranger Things first premiered, one of Season 1’s most puzzling details has finally been clarified — and it’s not what fans long believed.

For years, viewers assumed that the Demogorgon used some sort of telekinetic or supernatural force to unlock the Byers’ front door as Will fled into the house in the show’s very first episode. But according to the Duffer Brothers, that moment didn’t happen the way anyone thought.

The Demogorgon Did Not Open the Door — Because It Simply Can’t

In a recent interview highlighted by The Wrap, Ross Duffer confirmed that the monster is not telepathic and has no ability to open doors with its mind.

“The lock that gets opened telepathically — the demogorgons aren’t telepathic,” Ross explained. “I’ll say that much. People have noticed that.”

This revelation instantly reignited fan theories, especially because Demogorgons have never been shown to possess anything close to psychic powers. Meaning: whatever opened Will’s door that night, it wasn’t the monster chasing him.

The Duffers went one step further, teasing that this long-running mystery will finally be answered in the final season:

“So who exactly was responsible? You’ll have to watch Season 5 of Stranger Things to find out.”

But Yes — It Was the Demogorgon Who Kidnapped Will

Stranger Things Theory: Why The Demogorgon Took Will

While debunking myths, the Duffers also shut down another massively popular theory: that Vecna was secretly the figure who abducted Will in Season 1.

Speaking to Digital Spy UK, Ross Duffer stated firmly:

“Will’s biking and he sees a silhouetted figure in the road. I’ve seen people claim that that’s Vecna or that we went back and changed it. But that, I swear, was the Demogorgon.”

Matt Duffer backed him up:

“We’re not George Lucas-ing anything. So if you think we’ve done that, you’re hallucinating.”

So at least one thing is confirmed: the creature that dragged Will into the Upside Down was indeed the Demogorgon.
But the thing that opened the door for him? Something — or someone — else entirely.

If Only Eleven Has Telekinetic Powers… Then Who Did It?

This is where the fandom is spiraling.

Up to this point, only Eleven has demonstrated the ability to open locks or manipulate objects from afar. So the new revelation raises a far more unsettling question:

If the Demogorgon didn’t open the Byers’ door…
and Eleven certainly didn’t…
then who — or what — did?

The Duffer Brothers remain silent on the answer, but they’ve confirmed that Season 5 will finally reveal the truth — a mystery that dates back to the very first minutes of the series.

With the final chapter arriving in three parts — Nov. 26, Dec. 25, and Dec. 31 — fans won’t have to wait much longer to discover what really opened that door… and why.
