A newly released termination letter has shed light on the circumstances surrounding Sherrone Moore’s dismissal, revealing that the former coach was fired “for cause” after allegedly providing untruthful statements during an internal investigation into an inappropriate relationship with a female athletic department employee.
According to Athletic Director Warde Manuel, Moore was terminated after investigators concluded that his accounts during multiple interviews were inconsistent with evidence gathered during the inquiry. The letter states that Moore’s explanations were found to be misleading, a determination that ultimately justified his dismissal without severance.
Central to the decision was testimony from the female employee involved, whose detailed statements reportedly contradicted Moore’s version of events. Investigators determined that her account, supported by corroborating information, presented a far more complete and credible picture of the relationship than Moore’s disclosures.
University officials emphasized that the decision to terminate Moore was not based solely on the existence of an inappropriate relationship, but on the conclusion that he failed to be truthful when questioned during the internal review process. Under university policy, providing false or misleading information during an investigation constitutes grounds for immediate termination.
Moore has not publicly responded to the contents of the termination letter. His representatives have declined to comment.
The release of the letter has intensified scrutiny of Moore’s conduct and raised broader questions about accountability, transparency, and institutional oversight within collegiate athletic programs — questions that continue to reverberate as more details from the investigation come into public view.
