The family of 20-year-old University of Alabama student James “Jimmy” Gracey has spoken out following the discovery of his body in the waters off Barcelona, describing their devastation while urging authorities to uncover what truly happened during his final hours.

Gracey, who had been visiting friends in Spain during spring break, was reported missing on March 17 after a night out at the beachfront Shôko nightclub. According to his family, he was last seen around 3 a.m., when a friend left the venue but Gracey remained behind.

Two days later, authorities confirmed that his body had been recovered in the water near Somorrostro Beach. Police have not yet released full details surrounding the circumstances of his death, and an autopsy is expected to determine the official cause.

In a public statement, Gracey’s family described him as a “deeply loved son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend,” adding that they are struggling to process what they called an “unimaginable loss.”

The case has drawn widespread attention as investigators continue to examine the timeline leading up to his disappearance, including reports that his wallet had been found floating in the sea prior to the recovery of his body.
