A tiny Japanese macaque named Punch has captured hearts around the world after a charming and unexpectedly clever moment at Ichikawa City Zoo turned him into one of the internet’s most beloved animal stars.

Punch, born on July 26, 2025, was abandoned by his mother shortly after birth and had to be hand-raised by zookeepers who provided round-the-clock care. Without the maternal comfort that young monkeys typically rely on, the infant macaque struggled early on to socialize with other members of the troop.
