David Allen Coeâs estranged daughter Tanya Montana Coe claims she wasnât âgiven the opportunityâ to see him before he died.
The country legend died Wednesday at 86, his rep confirmed, though no cause of death was given. After the news broke, Tanya wrote an emotional social media post noting she wasnât able to see her father a final time.
âWaking up to the news that your dad has died and not being given the opportunity to see him one last time is a hell I wouldnât wish on my worst enemy,â she wrote.
She also shared that she hadnât been informed about any funeral arrangements for her father.
âIf anyone finds out about any funeral arrangements, please let me know as I would like to be at my dadâs funeral,â she wrote.
Tanyaâs mother is Davidâs ex-wife Jody Lynn Coe. He had four kids with Jody â Tanya, as well as Tyler, Shyanne, and Carson.
David was married five times before meeting his sixth wife, Kimberly Hastings Coe, whom he married in 2010.
In September 2025, Tanya â whoâs also a musician â shared that she had been estranged from her dad for âquite awhileâ in an Instagram post.
âSuffice it to say, my father disowned me ⌠blamed it on Jody, told me they were moving out of state and he couldnât tell me where they were moving to,â she claimed.
âHe shed a tear ⌠real or crocodile I am not sure, threw 200 dollars at my feet, rolled up the window of the limo and drove off without a second glance,â she continued.
She shared in the same post that she just found out that she had a half brother who was born four and a half months after her.
Tanya isnât the only one of Davidâs children that was estranged from him. His son Tyler â who dropped out of high school at 14 to join David on tour â told GQ in 2021 that he hadnât spoken to him since 2013, when the âTake This Job and Shove Itâ writer dismissed him from his band and formed a new one.
âIt wasnât a relationship that was ever there,â he told the outlet of not being particularly upset over their falling out. âIt hurt, but itâs not a new hurt.â
âI could probably count on one hand the number of times that my father has said useful life things to me,â he added.
