Majestic Bald Eagle Goes Viral Posting Up For Hours Outside A Bar In Alaska

Seeing a bald eagle perched next to a bar all but confirms that the United States made the right call when they chose their national bird (which was only made official recently, interestingly enough). Just seeing one in the wild brings about a sense of patriotism, but seeing a baldie at a place like a bar, that we Americans also like to frequent? That’s enough to get some “USA!” chants going.

Bald eagles are some of the most beautiful and majestic birds on the entire planet… but have you ever heard them described as a “vulture with a good PR agent?” Like vultures, bald eagles tend to be opportunistic hunters. Sure, they’ll hunt something down if they absolutely need to in order to survive, as they frequently dive for fish over bodies of water.

However, they’ll just as likely take a couple of bites out of something that’s already been killed… called “carrion.” They’ve also been known to steal captured fish and other small prey right out of the hands/claws/talons of other creatures. And they’ll also pick through garbage if the opportunity presents itself. Funny enough, they prefer to not work very hard for their own food.

Which is why I’m assuming this bald eagle was patiently sitting outside of this bar in Homer, Alaska. It was probably just trying to get some scraps. Perhaps they’ve thrown it some fish before, or people coming out of the bar leave some leftovers. Either that… or it’s a reincarnated spirit that just wants to drink another cheap, ice cold beer at the bar. But I’ve got the feeling the former is more likely than the latter.

A bar goer visiting The Twisted Goat bar took this incredible video showing the bald eagle calmly sitting right outside the door of the establishment, and it’s an absolutely beautiful bird. Considering the state of Alaska holds the record for largest bald eagle population in all of America, with a total number estimated to be around 30,000, Alaskans are rather used to seeing our national bird out and about.

Just not right outside the door of a bar like this one was:

“This eagle, in Homer, Alaska, was perched at The Twisted Goat for hours. His energy felt like he was waiting for his opportunity to go inside and find some morsels of cod, a fresh Alaska seafood on the menu. The CRAZY thing is we went inside then came back out several times to see it, take more pictures, and once we sat down he flew away and was gone!”

I hope that bald eagle ended up getting whatever it needed.

If it was in search of some food, I hope that it eventually found something to eat. If the wild, majestic winged creature just wanted to peer into the bar for a bit, wondering what life would be like if it could order a brewski and fried food whenever it wanted, I genuinely hope the moments it spent outside The Twisted Goat sufficed.

But most importantly, I want to salute this bald eagle for being like the rest of us Americans. Now we know there’s just something about a dive bar that’s alluring to all living beings.
