(UPDATE) FILIPINO tennis ace Alexandra “Alex” Eala repeated over Croatian Donna Vekic, 6-3, 6-4, in an exhibition match at the Kooyong Classic at the Kooyong Stadium in Melbourne, Australia, on Wednesday.

World No. 49 Eala first topped World No. 70 Vekic at the WTA 250 ASB Classic round of 32, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, in Auckland, New Zealand, on Jan. 6.

Eala stopped Vekic’s five-game win run and countered with four straight for a 40-15 win in the 10th game of the second set, clinching the match.

“Hi everyone, thank you so much,” said Eala in the post-match interview, addressing the Filipino diaspora which gave her another de facto home game at the venue.

“Thank you for playing Donna, it was a great match. I always have such a tough time playing with her. I have so much fun, especially with the support I got today.”

Eala displayed her dominant form in the match, carrying the momentum from her semifinal finish at the ASB Classic.

A year after semifinal finish, can Donna Vekic make more magic at Wimbledon?

The 20-year-old feels like she’s on a tear heading to the Australian Open which opens on Jan. 18.

“I’m feeling good. I wanna say that this is the best I’ve ever played,” said Eala.

“I think I’m in a good moment, so I hope to keep the momentum going, keep working hard, and hopefully things align for me at the Australian Open.”

Eala will make her main draw debut in the first major of the year, looking to go deep in the tournament.

An early exit Down Under will likely have her join the WTA 125 Philippine Women’s Open from Jan. 26 to 31, starring in the country’s first-ever WTA tournament.
