Alexandra Eala and Iva Jovic exchange messages after beating Venus Williams in doubles
Eala was full of praise for Williams and Svitolina after the match, having been inspired by both when she was an aspiring tennis player.
Jovic and Eala’s combined age is just 38, which is seven years younger than Williams, who is returning to tennis for the first time since the 2025 US Open.
After dispatching the legends in Auckland, Eala and Jovic have shared messages on Instagram about the victory.
Alexandra Eala and Iva Jovic joke with each other on social media
Jovic shared an Instagram Story of the match, with the caption: “Me when Alexandra Eala is doing all the work.”
Eala downplayed her work during their doubles win by replying: “Says the one who saved all the set points.”
How high do you think Alexandra Eala’s ceiling is?
Top5 material for sure. She is dynamic, hungry and she has a good game. Love watching her play. Her big weakness is her serve which I am sure she is working on.
I bet for Alex Eala to get to the world championship game in 2026-2027.She was young and full of enthusiasm to be at that level in the next 2years.
For me her weakness is the first serve
The pair had a real battle on their hands during the first set, which they eventually won with a narrow tie-break.
The rising stars then took control of the match by soaring to a 6-1 victory in the second set to defeat the two icons.
Eala and Jovic will play the winners of Asia Muhammad and Erin Routliffe vs Jesika Malečková and Renata Zarazúa.

Alexandra Eala set to face another icon at the ASB Classic
Eala and Jovic are both competing in the singles of the ASB Classic as well as their high-profile doubles appearance.
Jovic defeated Gabriela Knutson in three sets in her opening round match to set up a second round clash with Sára Bejlek.
What could stop Alexandra Eala from finishing 2026 inside the top 20?
“With Alexandra Eala, we’re talking about someone who has hands given by God.”
– Mats Wilander
“Once she gets her game right, she could be among the best in the world.”
– Toni Nadal
As she get older, the strength will increase plus an added experience. Stamina is for her to work for, maybe she will be in category of a top ten player but not to win multiple grandslam.
Certainly looks good, but I think it’s too early for a top 20 finish in 2026. Perhaps 2027!
As I’ve mentioned before, Alexandra Eala has two weaknesses: strength and stamina. She MUST focus on those two to win over her opponents. Can she improve her ranking come 2026? If she trains harder and focuses her training more on those weaknesses, I can still say “YES.”
Eala, meanwhile, is yet to play her first round match. She will play 2024 Wimbledon quarter-finalist Donna Vekic for the first time in her career.
Jovic and Eala are not on the same side of the draw, so their only meeting at the ASB Classic can be in the final.
A final meeting between the two rising stars is possible, however, as the pair are the third and fourth seeds respectively.
