Alex Eala reaches career-high No. 51 ahead of Hong Kong Open

Alexandra “Alex” Eala reached another career-high in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings after climbing to No. 51, two spots above her previous best of No. 53 last week.

The new ranking was released on Monday, just as she begins her campaign in the Hong Kong Open, marking her final push in this year’s WTA season.

On Monday afternoon, Eala will open her doubles campaign alongside Chan Hao-Ching of Chinese Taipei against the duo of Kamilla Rakhimova of Russia and Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus in the Round of 16.

The Filipino ace will then launch her singles run on Tuesday, facing world No. 79 Katie Boulter of Great Britain.

This tournament serves as Eala’s final WTA event of the year, capping a historic season in which she broke into the world’s top 100, defeated multiple Grand Slam champions, and became the first Filipino to win a Grand Slam main-draw match at the US Open, before capturing her first WTA 125 title days later in Guadalajara.
