Coco Gauff Returns to the Miami Open Practice Courts in Her Hometown Spotlight

Coco Gauff has not provided any updates on her arm injury since Indian Wells, but she appears to have subtly given a hint ahead of the Miami Open.

Gauff retired from her match against Alexandra Eala at Indian Wells, with it being just the second time in her professional career that she had been unable to complete a match.

Following her retirement, Gauff released a statement explaining that it felt like her arm was on fire and that she had never felt anything like this before.

While she has not spoken publicly since then, it appears that Gauff has now provided an update on her injury ahead of the Miami Open.

Coco Gauff on practice schedule at the Miami Open

Gauff made her WTA Tour debut at the Miami Open in 2019, and as she lives in Florida, it is a very special tournament for her.

However, there were doubts about whether Gauff would have been able to play the Miami Open this year due to her arm injury.

Where will Coco Gauff be ranked at the end of the 2026 season?

Those doubts were then lessened after tennis fans spotted Gauff on the practice schedule yesterday, before all play was rained off.

Gauff is on the Miami Open practice schedule once again, as she is set to train with Indonesian player Janice Tjen on Stadium Court.

Coco Gauff faces potential banana skin in her first match at the Miami Open

While Gauff appears to have been handed some positive news in terms of her injury, the Miami Open draw has thrown up a potential banana skin for the world number four.

After receiving a bye to the second round, she could play Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto, who beat Gauff just last month at the Qatar Open.

Some of the other potential threats to Gauff in her half of the draw include Iga Swiatek, Amanda Anisimova and Mirra Andreeva.

Although the Miami Open is somewhat of a home tournament for Gauff, she has actually not enjoyed great results at the tournament.

The Miami Open is actually her second worst WTA 1000 tournament in terms of win-loss record for Gauff, as she has never actually surpassed the fourth round.

Gauff will hope to change that this year, with the main draw of the Miami Open set to get underway on Tuesday, March 17.
