“WHEN I SEE HER CARRY THE FLAG, MY HEART SWELLS.” — PACQUIAO’S EMOTIONAL PRAISE FOR ALEX EALA IGNITES NATIONAL PRIDE In a country that has long measured sporting greatness against the thunder of Manny Pacquiao’s fists, a new kind of roar is rising from the tennis courts — and even the “Pacman” himself is watching with unmistakable pride as Alex Eala climbs the WTA ranks and carries the Philippine flag onto the world stage. Fresh off a breakthrough run to the Dubai quarterfinals and a career-high No. 31 ranking, the 20-year-old has become a symbol of belief for a generation daring to dream beyond traditional boundaries, and Pacquiao did not hide his emotion when speaking about the feeling of seeing her compete. He described the swell of pride that comes from watching a fellow Filipino stand tall against the world’s best, emphasizing that the nation needs more athletes willing to work relentlessly and represent the country with heart and discipline. While Eala has humbly brushed aside comparisons to the boxing legend, insisting she still has far to go, the torch of inspiration already seems to be passing in subtle, powerful ways. As she prepares for the bright lights of Indian Wells and Miami, the weight of expectation is balanced by something deeper — the quiet knowledge that a sporting icon is cheering from home, and an entire nation is beginning to believe that another global superstar may be rising before their eyes…

‘Proud’ Pacquiao tells Alex Eala: ‘Keep it up, work hard’

Fashion PULIS: Insta Scoop: Manny Pacquiao's Message for Alex Eala

MANILA — Filipino boxing icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao is full of pride and admiration for Alex Eala, as the tennis star continues to raise her level at the WTA Tour.

For Pacquiao, watching Eala compete filled him with national pride.

“Noong pinapanood ko siya maglaro, I’m so proud of her na talagang dala-dala ’yung flag ng Pilipinas,” the “Pacman” said. “Kapag tinitignan ko siya parang, proud na proud ako sa kaniya kasi siyempre Pilipino.”

The boxing legend added that the country needs more athletes like Eala, before offering a message of encouragement to the 20-year-old standout: “Keep it up, work hard.”

Eala is coming off a run to the quarterfinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships, after which she soared to a career best No. 31 in the WTA rankings.

She had previously shrugged off comparisons to Pacquiao after drawing huge crowds to her match at the Australian Open in January.

“Iba naman si Manny Pacquiao, I think. Nasa ibang level na siya,” said Eala, when asked if she was the ‘new Pacquiao.”

“Sa tingin ko, medyo malayo pa ako,” she said.

Eala is next expected to compete in the main draw of Indian Wells and the Miami Open.
