Thy Mitchell (39 years old), her husband Matthew Mitchell (52 years old), and their two young children were found dead inside their $1.2 million mansion in the River Oaks neighborhood of Houston, Texas, on May 4th. Police suspect it was a murder-suicide.

Following the deaths of Thy Mitchell and her children, many people revisited her most recent social media posts. At first glance, the clip looks like a harmless joke about Thy possibly outliving her husband. However, after the tragedy occurred, many viewers found the words in the video haunting and chilling.

“These omens were truly terrifying,” one commenter remarked.

“Looking back now, I realize how horrifying it all was,” another user wrote.

The Mitchell family is known for owning two popular restaurants in Houston and even appeared on Guy Fieri’s television show Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives in August 2024.

In their final interview as a couple in October 2024 on the What’s Eric Eating podcast, they both shared about the pressure of balancing running their “restaurant family” and taking care of their personal lives.

Thy, who grew up in Houston in a Vietnamese immigrant family, also spoke about the pressures of running two restaurants and the fear of failure in an interview with Morning Honey in December 2024.

On Instagram, Matthew frequently appears in his wife’s posts, portraying an image of a happy and fulfilling family.

The motive for the couple’s deaths remains unclear. Police discovered the bodies of the couple and their two children with multiple gunshot wounds after responding to a medical checkup at their River Oaks home around 5:30 p.m. Monday.

“Evidence at the scene indicates this was a murder-suicide, in which the man shot three victims and then killed himself,” police said in a statement.

According to his website biography, Matthew, a former journalist, lived in London, Paris, and New York before returning to Texas and giving up a high-paying job in the pharmaceutical industry to enter the restaurant business. Meanwhile, Thy grew up working at her and her mother’s Vietnamese restaurant and worked in the hospitality industry throughout her college years.

According to their website description, the couple met because of their shared love of food and travel.
