Patricia Clarkson brought a lot to Ransom Canyon season 2, and not just as Claire O’Grady.
The actress joined the cast of the Netflix romance series as the mom of Minka Kelly’s character, Quinn O’Grady, and played a major role in Quinn and Staten (Josh Duhamel) finally deciding to be together.
Kelly, 46, tells PEOPLE she was a fan of Clarkson, 66, before they worked together. “So when [showrunner] April [Blair] told me that it was going to be Patricia, I got very excited,” Kelly says.
“She didn’t disappoint,” Kelly says of her costar. “She was so much fun to work with.”

“We keep talking about her being a bit of a rascal on and off-screen,” Kelly reveals. “We always knew it would be a fun day when it was a Patty day on set.”
Clarkson said that her draw to the series was in part due to Kelly herself. “The reason I did it is I was a fan of Minka and Josh,” she told What’s on Netflix. “I went because I really admire Minka and Josh, and they didn’t disappoint.”
“They’re so good at these characters. They were kind of born to play these characters,” Clarkson said of Kelly and Duhamel, 53, as first loves Quinn and Staten.
“It was challenging,” she said of the role. “This character challenged me, and that’s what I want to do at this point. I don’t need to keep acting unless I’ve been challenged.”

Luckily, she and Kelly bonded off-screen as much as they did on camera. “I adored her off-camera too. Minka is a beautiful person.”
“I’m doing these brutal emotional scenes with Minka. You got to trust that you’re going to go there and that we’re going to be in sync,” she said. “Because you can only fake so much. You have to have a real connection to someone when you’re doing that level of scene. When you’re going to come at somebody in a scene or break in half, you have to know someone.”
