Previously kept under the codename Flowervale Street , the latest sci-fi survival masterpiece from director David Robert Mitchell and producer JJ Abrams has officially been revealed as The End of Oak Street .
Throughout its initial development, the Warner Bros. Pictures and Bad Robots film project was kept under strict secrecy. It wasn’t until the official trailer was released that the film’s title, The End of Oak Street, was confirmed. With a budget of $85 million and filmed in IMAX format, the movie promises an incredibly immersive visual and auditory experience for audiences worldwide starting August 14, 2026.

The film *The End of Oak Street* is set in a peaceful suburban neighborhood in the United States during the 1980s. The Platt family of four is enjoying a comfortable life and their daily routines on Oak Street.
However, a mysterious cosmic event suddenly occurred, uprooting the entire Oak neighborhood from the modern world and transporting them to a completely unfamiliar dimension. Upon reaching the end of the road, the residents discovered that their neighborhood was no longer nearby, but rather a desolate cliff face and vast expanses of primeval forest.

Even more terrifying, this was the territory of gigantic carnivorous dinosaurs (like Allosaurus). Completely isolated from the civilized world, the Platt family was forced to band together, utilizing whatever rudimentary tools they could find to fight and survive among the most ferocious predators in Earth’s history.
The highlight of the script is that it doesn’t follow the typical action-fantasy trope. Instead, it evokes the tense, mysterious, yet deeply moving atmosphere of family love, reminiscent of the classic Amblin/Steven Spielberg style of the 1980s.
Inspiration comes from the most ordinary moments.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly , director David Robert Mitchell recalled walking through his neighborhood in Michigan, particularly past a garage with a wire mesh fence and trash cans. He said:
“I was struck by images like, ‘It would be great if there was a dinosaur right there.'”
The simple yet striking idea of combining fantasy with an ordinary middle-class suburb became the seed for the story. But dinosaurs roaming the neighborhood and tearing apart its inhabitants aren’t the only concern for the film’s protagonists. Isolated from the outside world, they find themselves trapped in the very suburb they once called paradise.

The biggest draw of The End of Oak Street comes from the combination of big names behind the camera.
Director and screenwriter David Robert Mitchell previously created the psychological horror sensation It Follows and the unique neo-noir film Under the Silver Lake . Mitchell’s ability to build a suffocating rhythm and slowly creeping fear is considered a breath of fresh air for the monster survival film genre.
Producer JJ Abrams of Bad Robot Productions always delivers intriguing “blind boxes” for audiences. Ever since the trailer was released, many fans have been speculating whether this film has any hidden connection to the Cloverfield Universe.
