Michael Che pulled out of Kevin Hart roast before shading white writers for jokes about âslavery, sex crimes, slursâ
Michael Che spoke out about the controversial jokes made on âThe Roast of Kevin Hartâ after pulling out of the special.
The comedian was originally slated to appear on the roast Sunday, but two sources told Variety that Che pulled out due to scheduling difficulties with âSaturday Night Live.â
Insiders also told the outlet that the roast lineup underwent several last-minute additions and dropouts.
Two days after the roast aired live on Netflix, Che, 42, took to Instagram to shade the jokes written by the white comedians â including Tony Hinchcliffe and Shane Gillis.
âwhite guys and black people joke different,â he wrote Tuesday. âblack guys roast like, âlook at this nâa shoes!â white roasts are like, âslavery, math, slain teens, sex crimes, slurs, family secrets.’â
âwhite guys dont give a fâk about they shoes,â the Emmy-nominated writer added.
In a second post, Che criticized the white writers who were booked to write jokes for comedians at the roast.
ââlets do a roast celebrating the career of the most successful black comic in the last 10 years,’â he wrote on Instagram Tuesday. ââi love that! who should we get to write it?’â
On the next slide, the stand-up comedian shared an image of five white men who were part of Gillisâ writing crew.
âcmonnnnnnnnn⌠thats not funny?â Che concluded.
Page Six has reached out to Netflix reps for comment but did not immediately hear back.
During the roast, Gillis â who also served as the host â poked fun at Hartâs height by referencing slavery and lynching.
Hinchcliffe also made a controversial joke about George Floydâs 2020 death.
âThe Black community is so proud of you right now George Floyd is looking up at us all laughing so hard he canât breathe,â the comedian said as Hart laughed.
