DOLLY PARTON HONORED IN EMOTIONAL EMMYS TRIBUTE AS SALLY FIELD CALLS HER AN ‘ANGEL ON EARTH’ BEFORE REBA McENTIRE’S HEARTBREAKING FAREWELL

The glitter and applause of the 2026 Emmy Awards briefly gave way to an altogether quieter moment on Monday night as some of television’s biggest names came together to remember Dolly Parton, just weeks after her death at the age of 80.

The country music legend, who died on August 25, was given a special tribute before the ceremony moved into its wider In Memoriam segment, with two women who knew her personally helping tell the story of the star behind the rhinestones.

Sally Field, who starred alongside Dolly in the beloved 1989 film Steel Magnolias, took to the stage first and immediately made the tribute deeply personal.

“If there are truly angels on earth, then we just lost one,” Field said as she remembered the warmth, humor and humanity of her former co-star.

Field admitted that when they first worked together, she had not yet fully understood the scale of the woman standing beside her — not simply as an entertainer, but as someone whose generosity and influence stretched far beyond the screen.

Her words set the tone for what followed.

Reba McEntire then appeared in a sparkling white gown to perform Dolly’s “Appalachian Memories,” turning the packed Peacock Theater into something closer to an intimate farewell between old friends.

As the performance ended, Reba allowed the music to fall away before delivering a simple message: “I love you Dolly. So much.

It was a small sentence after a career filled with enormous songs, but it became one of the evening’s most affecting moments. Reba had previously described Dolly as a treasured friend whose kindness, music and enormous heart would never be forgotten.

Dolly was then remembered again during the Emmys’ wider In Memoriam tribute, which also honored Catherine O’Hara, Rob Reiner and other television figures lost during the past year. Noah Kahan performed “Bridge Over Troubled Water” as images of the late stars appeared onscreen.

Although Dolly will always be synonymous with country music, her television legacy was substantial. She fronted her own variety shows, made memorable guest appearances and eventually became an Emmy winner herself in 2021 as an executive producer of Netflix’s Christmas on the Square.

On a night built around trophies, records and standing ovations, Dolly’s tribute required none of those things to leave its mark.

Instead, it came down to two longtime friends, a familiar song and a few words that made an enormous theater suddenly feel very small.
