A Wednesday Moment 3 Years in the Making Set Up 1 of the Most Iconic Villain Reveals in TV History
After a three-year hiatus, Wednesday Season 2 still managed to be one of Netflix’s most anticipated returning series of 2025. Season 2 was jam-packed with a lot of things fans wanted to see. Wednesday’s younger brother, Pugsly, became a student at Nevermore, making him a more important member of the main cast. Wednesday’s parents, Morticia and Gomez, also became more staple characters, especially as Morticia took up an active role at Nevermore Academy. Not to mention Enid’s transformation into a full-fledged werewolf gave her a lot of growing to do in Season 2.
Season 2 also introduced a lot of new characters into the fold. Agnes, Wednesday’s biggest fan and stalker, Isaac Night, the zombie Pugsly accidentally resurrected, Wednesday’s grandmother, and many more helped round out the ever-expanding cast. One of the most highly anticipated additions to the show was Lady Gaga, who played Rosaline Rotwood, a former professor at Nevermore Academy. Sadly, Lady Gaga only appeared for a few brief scenes, but she did deliver a song for one of the most iconic scenes in all of Season 2.
Lady Gaga’s “The Dead Dance” Premiered Alongside Wednesday Season 2, Part 2

Lady Gaga was a highly anticipated addition to Wednesday’s cast, but she did not appear in the first half of the season. In between the release of the first half and the second half, it became abundantly clear that Lady Gaga wouldn’t just make an appearance in the show. She would also be releasing a song called “The Dead Dance” when Season 2, Part 2 hit Netflix. The song and music video were both released on Wednesday, September 3rd, the same day that the second half of the season came out. The music video, directed by Tim Burton, featured Lady Gaga dressed as a doll dancing along to the song on Mexico’s Island of the Dolls.
The song wasn’t just released alongside Wednesday, either. It actually plays a significant role in Season 2, specifically in Episode 7, “Woe Me the Money.” In this episode, Enid has prepared a dance routine for a Nevermore ball to Lady Gaga’s “The Dead Dance.” After discovering that she might be an alpha and also breaking up with her new boyfriend, Bruno, she momentarily decides to pull out of the performance. She doesn’t want to be the center of attention when she feels so alone, but Agnes encourages her to go out on stage anyway. Agnes even promises to dance with her so she won’t be alone. She managed to learn the choreography from all the time she spent spying on Wednesday and Enid while using her power of invisibility to stay out of sight.
This scene is a direct callback to Season 1, specifically the scene where Wednesday attends a dance in Episode 4, “Woe What a Night.” In this episode, Wednesday ends up attending a Nevermore dance to avoid blowing her cover during her ongoing murder investigation. This episode has a dramatic boiling point between Wednesday’s two “love interests,” Tyler and Xavier, but it features one of the most recognizable scenes in the entire first season. Wednesday makes her way to the dance floor with Tyler and breaks out into a strange but compelling dance, one that becomes the central focus of many memes and TikTok reels.
Enid and Agnes’ dance to Lady Gaga’s new song feels like a scene three years in the making. Not only does it allow two beloved characters to have their shining moment in the same way Wednesday did in Season 1, it’s also to a Lady Gaga song. While Wednesday did not dance to Gaga, the clip of her dance went viral all over the internet, often with Lady Gaga’s “Bloody Mary” playing instead of the actual music from the show. Even Lady Gaga herself got in on the trend by uploading a video of herself dressed like Wednesday and doing Wednesday’s choreography to “Bloody Mary.”
“The Dead Dance” scene with Enid and Agnes feels like the perfect way to honor this iconic Season 1 moment. Enid and Agnes shine on stage with stunning choreography, and they work together as a team to pull off some truly incredible stunts. Agnes uses her power of invisibility multiple times throughout the dance to help give Enid the appearance of spinning through the air upside down. The dance the two girls do is also very similar to Gaga’s “The Dead Dance” music video, too, which helps tie in Mother Monster’s influence and honor her love of the show.
Enid & Agnes’ “The Dead Dance” Performance was So Much More than Just a Dance Number

Had Wednesday just given Enid and Agnes this bonding moment through a dance number in front of the school, it would have been incredible. “The Dead Dance” is an amazing song that fits perfectly with the Wednesday vibe. Their performance is incredible, too. They truly work together as a team, which is a lovely thing to see because Enid and Agnes have been at odds for most of the season. The two of them overcoming their differences and their dislike of one another to support each other in such a beautiful and open display would have been more than enough for this scene to flourish.
Wednesday didn’t stop there, though. As one of the best mystery shows on TV, Wednesday needed to use this dance number for more than just a wholesome moment. In addition to the incredible Dead Dance performance, it also acts as a setup for one of the best villain defeats in modern television. Wednesday helps Enid and Agnes come up with a plan to expose Principal Dort, who took over Nevermore Academy after Principal Weems’ death. Dort has been blackmailing Bianca for most of the season, forcing her to use her Siren Song on people to secure wealthy investors for the school. Bianca even uses her ability on Morticia, forcing her to get in contact with her wealthy, estranged mother to secure a large donation.
Principal Dort is actually the founder of the MorningSong cult. Bianca believed that MorningSong was started by Gideon Sterling, her stepfather. Gideon used Bianca’s mother to coerce people into joining MorningSong. With her Siren Song, she was able to charm many people into joining and giving up large sums of money to the organization. Gideon was also grooming Bianca to take over for her mother when she was old enough.
In a plot twist, Dort was actually the creator of MorningSong, and he also had control over Bianca’s mother before Gideon came into the picture. He hired Gideon to be the figurehead of the organization, but continued to reap the benefits of all the money the cult extorted from its members. This also explains why Dort has a trinket that makes him immune to Siren Songs. He needed it to maintain control of Bianca’s mother and MorningSong.
Dort is so enchanted by Enid and Agnes’ dance that he lets his guard down. Agnes utilizing her invisibility on stage is a clever way to ensure people won’t get suspicious. She’s on stage, dancing with Enid, and using her powers for some incredible special effects. No one notices that Agnes actually slips off the stage halfway through the dance, leaving Enid to perform alone. Everyone, including Dort, assumes that she’s still on stage; she’s just invisible. Instead, Agnes makes her way to Dort and picks his pocket. She steals Dort’s Siren-proof charm, meaning he can be Siren Songed. Agnes then returns to the stage to continue the dance with Enid, acting as if she never left. Everyone buys it, including Dort.
Without his charm, Bianca is able to Siren Song him. Bianca calls him up on stage after the dance ends to honor him, but she uses her Siren Song to force him to tell everyone at the gala the truth. He created MorningSong. He’s been blackmailing Bianca since he arrived at Nevermore. He doesn’t plan to use any of the funds the school raises for the school. Instead, he plans to split with all the money, leaving Nevermore with nothing. He even confesses to murdering Gideon with his power to conjure fire. Exposing him is good, but forcing him to tattle on himself in front of the entire school is so much more satisfying.
Naturally, Dort tries to take Biance hostage, threatening to kill her with his fire. In the commotion, he accidentally sets fire to the rope holding the chandelier over the stage in place. Before Dort can hurt Bianca, Ajax steps in and uses his Gorgon ability to turn Dort to stone. Thanks to Dort’s fire, the chandelier’s rope snaps, sending the massive chandelier tumbling down onto the stage. It slams into Dort’s stone body, shattering him into hundreds of pieces. Forcing Dort to confess to hundreds of people was iconic, but his mistake being the reason he died is just icing on the cake. Every single second of Dort’s defeat is oh so satisfying. Without Enid and Agnes’ dance, none of this would have been possible.
