‘Wednesday’s Hunter Doohan Gives “Weyler” Fans Hope for Season 3: “I Wanted Jenna To Be My Master” [Exclusive]

Editors Note: The following article contains spoilers for ‘Wednesday’ Season 2Wednesday Season 2 has officially come to a close. Fans can already look forward to Season 3 after the renewal came ahead of the sophomore season’s premiere. The threads left to hopefully be tied together in Season 3 include Wednesday Addams’ (Jenna Ortega) search for Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers), who wolfed out to save her and is now stuck in that form, as well as the mystery of Wednesday’s Aunt Ophelia. She was revealed to not only be alive, but also kept deep underground by her mother, Hester Frump (Joanna Lumley). One other loose thread ripe to be explored is the future of Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan) and his dynamic with Wednesday Addams. He was last seen riding off with Isadora Capri (Billie Piper), who offered him a safe haven for Hydes.
As he leaves, Wednesday’s inner monologue begins, and she ponders why she cut Tyler free rather than kill him in the final showdown with him, Isaac Night (Owen Painter), and Tyler’s mother, Francoise Galpin (Frances O’Connor), against the Addams family. In the scene, she “misses” hitting him with an axe, offers him a smile, with the intention of cutting him free from Isaac’s machine and having him Hyde-out rather than killing him. In Season 1, as Wednesday unraveled the mystery of the existence of a Hyde near Nevermore (Tyler), the pair formed an unlikely friendship when she thought he was the Normie son of the sheriff. After it’s revealed that his mother was, in fact, a Hyde, it complicates their relationship (that turned into a bit more than friendship). Now, in an interview with Collider’s Christina Radish, Doohan explains where the Wednesday and Tyler dynamic leaves off heading into Season 3. “Obviously, he’s not in control of himself again, but then to see that his feelings poke through when he thinks he’s actually lost her.” He explains that:
“She misses at the end. I don’t know. At the end, Tyler feels like he’s lost everything. He thinks he’s going to die. He just has no idea what’s even left for him at this point. I have no idea what’s in store for him.”
Could Tyler Be Redeemed in ‘Wednesday’ Season 3?

In Season 2 of Wednesday, Tyler was locked away in Willow Hill, an asylum for Outcasts, for the carnage he’d wrought as a Hyde in Season 1. In Season 2, Wednesday stages a jailbreak, and as she tries to get the situation (that she created by breaking him out) under control, she has the idea to try and become Tyler’s new Master. It was foiled, but when Collider asked about what Doohan would like to see, Doohan says “I wanted Jenna [Ortega] to be my master. I thought that was a fun theory. I was like, ‘Oh, I guess not.'” But given the state of things, what could come of Tyler’s character? Is he beyond redemption? Doohan explains, “Isn’t the point of a redemption arc that you earn it? He’s done some really bad things. I don’t know. It’s the Addams family. It’s foreplay.”
The dynamic between Tyler and Wednesday is left ambiguous for now since they’re heading physically in different directions. But Isaac’s reference to Tyler about Wednesday being an old flame implies that even past feelings could compromise present judgment, which was proven right when Wednesday freed Tyler, instead of killing him in the end. So could that mean those feelings are still there heading into Season 3? Doohan says:
“I don’t know. Tyler talks a big game, and then it’s fun to get to see these moments poking through. Even when he’s a Hyde about to kill Enid, Wednesday is like, ‘I lied about my feelings,’ even in Hyde form, he’s like, ‘Tell me more.'”
