A new trailer for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things has been released, teasing the major battle between Hawkins and the Upside Down. As Netflix prepares to bring what is arguably its biggest pop culture juggernaut to a satisfying conclusion, the latest trailer takes a look back at where the story began, how it’s grown, and what audiences can expect next.

According to the Duffer brothers, who, alongside Stranger Things season 5’s main cast members, are featured in this latest trailer, this final season promises to be the “biggest season we’ve ever had, in terms of action, in terms of visual effects, in terms of story.”

Netflix’s clip provides a few interesting behind-the-scenes glimpses of what’s to come, including Lucas and Max in Max’s hospital room, the destruction of Hawkins, a brand-new moment between Eleven and Mike, and more. Millie Bobby Brown also explains that this season will be “more of a mission, more of an adventure,” and that “Everybody is really put into the thick of it. No one is sitting back on a walkie-talkie.”

There’s plenty to look forward to. Check out the new trailer from Netflix below:

What This Means For Stranger Things Season 5

Finn Wolfhard looks shocked in the trailer for Stranger Things season 5

Though it’s no surprise that this will be Stranger Things’ biggest season yet, this trailer really proves the scale and enormity of this last outing. The destruction in Stranger Things was often contained to one specific location, such as the Starcourt Mall, the Hawkins lab, the pumpkin patch, or the Creel house.

This season, though, the entirety of Hawkins has been affected by the mysterious world of the Upside Down. We can see glimpses of the town’s destruction in Stranger Things season 5’s trailers. How will Hawkins’s saviours be able to fight Vecna from all sides? How will that affect this season’s character pairings and storylines?

In previous seasons, Stranger Things’ ever-growing ensemble cast was split into groups, with each investigating their own mysteries until they eventually joined up with the rest of their friends towards the end. While this featurette teases a similar structure, with the original Party together and Eleven and Hopper on the hunt, this trailer hints that they’ll all be together and switch pairings more this season, too.

Our Take On Stranger Things Season 5

The Main Characters Looking Down At Something In Stranger Things Season 5

The most important thing for Stranger Things season 5 to get right is to ensure that the scope of the story doesn’t overwhelm the characters, their relationships, and their development. Season 5 is understandably the show’s biggest, scariest, and most VFX-heavy season yet, but what Stranger Things has always excelled at is making the action a way to explore the characters’ vulnerabilities, strengths, and friendships.

As the Duffer brothers explain in this latest trailer, “Ultimately, what people want is they want to see these characters together one last time.” The heart of Stranger Things has always been its great cast of characters. If they can give each character their due and a satisfying (and hopefully not devastating) ending, then Stranger Things will go out on a well-deserved high note.

Stranger Things season 5, volume 1, premieres on Netflix on November 26. Volume 2 will be released on December 25, and the Finale will premiere on December 31.
