Wednesday Rising Star Evie Templeton Confesses She Made a Bold Change to Her Character Agnes Without Telling the Writers — Taking a Risk on Jenna Ortega’s Advice That Transformed the Role and Shocked Fans (And Proved to Be a Brilliant Gamble)

Wednesday Season 2: Evie Templeton Reveals Bold Change to Agnes — With Jenna Ortega’s Guidance

Inside Evie Templeton’s Transformation Into Agnes DeMille in 'Wednesday' Season 2

Sometimes, the smallest detail can make the biggest difference — and Evie Templeton just proved it with her chilling portrayal of Agnes in Wednesday season 2.

In a recent interview, rising star Evie Templeton confessed that she made a key adjustment to her character Agnes — and she didn’t even run it past the writers. Instead, she took the risk after being advised directly by none other than Jenna Ortega, Wednesday Addams herself.

And the gamble paid off.

The Change That Defined Agnes

Evie revealed that she decided Agnes would never blink on screen — a haunting choice that gave the character her wide, manic, almost Burton-esque gaze. The effect was immediate. Viewers were unsettled, intrigued, and strangely mesmerized by the eerie steadiness of Agnes’s eyes.

“It just made sense,” Evie explained. “Agnes is obsessive, paranoid, and completely locked into Wednesday’s world. Blinking would make her feel human. And she’s not supposed to feel safe, or comforting, or normal. She’s supposed to feel… wrong.”

Jenna Ortega’s Three Rules

According to Evie, it was Jenna Ortega who encouraged her to go all in on the unsettling detail. Ortega gave her three strict rules to follow if she wanted Agnes to truly embody that unhinged, fanatical energy:

  1. Study the strange: Watch horror films and clips of mental patients to capture the paranoia and “off” mannerisms that make people uneasy.

  2. Control every smile: Keep emotions buried under a false calm — when speaking, the corner of her mouth could never lift more than two millimeters. She had to maintain a smile that was chillingly restrained, no matter what.

  3. The unblinking stare: As Wednesday’s obsessive follower, Agnes’s eyes had to lock on her target like a hawk. “Blinking weakens paranoia,” Ortega reportedly told her.

The Cost of Perfection

The commitment wasn’t easy. Evie admitted she spent hours practicing in front of a mirror, training herself to keep her eyes open without flinching. The effort left her eyes sore and watering. By the later stages of filming, she even had to use artificial tears just to keep going.

“It hurt,” she laughed. “But it worked. The fans noticed. And that’s all that matters.”

Was It Worth It?

Critics have already praised Agnes as one of the breakout characters of season 2, and fans online have fixated on her “terrifying eyes” as the most striking detail. What began as a risk, guided by Ortega’s wisdom, has now become Agnes’s defining trait.

So — what do you think? Did Evie Templeton’s dedication make Agnes one of the creepiest new characters in Wednesday’s world? Or did the unblinking stare go too far?
