When Owen Painter arrived on the set of Wednesday 2 in Dublin during the summer of 2024, he only knew one word related to his role: Slurp. However, at that time, the identity of the character he was going to portray was still a big mystery to him. He only knew that he would play a zombie, resurrected by Wednesday’s younger brother, Pugsley. But it wasn’t until part 2 of season 2 that the true appearance of Isaac Night, the character Owen plays, was revealed.

The process of keeping his role a secret was a huge challenge for Owen. The actor had to keep his character under wraps for months, even while working with his co-stars. This was especially difficult for him since Owen was very close to the Wednesday cast. In fact, he and his fellow actors even went on a vacation together in the Mediterranean. Keeping his role a secret became a major challenge for Owen, who is known for being open and close with his co-stars.

Owen Painter and Hunter Doohan (who plays Tyler) are good friends in real life. Therefore, their “grandson” relationship on-screen feels as though they are real siblings. According to Owen, the relationship between Isaac, Tyler, and Francoise in Wednesday is quite complex. “Francoise hugs Isaac and lovingly caresses him. It feels like Isaac is receiving the motherly love Tyler wanted her to give him. For me, there’s definitely some jealousy between them,” Owen shared about the depth of their relationship.

Owen Painter, originally from West Hartford, Connecticut, began his acting career as a teenager, performing in high school musicals like Hairspray, as well as plays by Anton Chekhov and William Shakespeare. He has a particular passion for the works of director Tim Burton, which eventually led him to Wednesday 2. Before joining this project, Owen had appeared in the Emmy-winning series The Handmaid’s Tale and the TV series Tiny Beautiful Things.
