For months, I couldn’t understand why my jewelry kept disappearing.
At first, it was just a diamond bracelet.
Then a pair of sapphire earrings.
Soon, an antique necklace my grandmother had left me vanished without a trace.
Everyone insisted I had simply misplaced them.
But I knew better.
So one afternoon, I pretended to leave the house for a business meeting. Instead, I quietly returned through the back entrance and watched the security cameras from my phone.
Nothing happened for nearly an hour.
Then my housekeeper slowly walked into my bedroom.
She carefully locked the door behind her.
My heart started pounding.
She walked straight toward my hidden safe, looked around to make sure no one was watching, and began pressing the passcode with shocking confidence.
She knew my password.
The safe clicked open.
She smiled as she pulled out my velvet jewelry boxes, stuffing diamond rings, gold bracelets, and emerald necklaces into her handbag as if they already belonged to her.
That was the moment I walked into the room.
She froze.
The jewelry slipped from her hands onto the floor.
“You… you weren’t supposed to be home,” she stammered.
I calmly picked up the TV remote and pressed one button.
The large television lit up, displaying footage from hidden cameras I had secretly installed after the first pieces of jewelry disappeared. Every theft from the past six months played one after another.
Her face turned completely pale.
Minutes later, the police arrived with copies of every recording. Their investigation uncovered that she had been selling my jewelry to a pawn shop under a fake identity, stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of valuables.
She was arrested before she could leave my house.
As officers led her away in handcuffs, she begged me for forgiveness.
I simply looked at the empty jewelry boxes she had left behind and said,
“You didn’t lose your job today…
You lost your freedom.”
