Interim coach Biff Poggi described the team’s current emotional state as fraught with disbelief, anger and a profound sense of betrayal following revelations about Moore’s conduct and subsequent legal troubles.

Moore was dismissed by Michigan on December 10, 2025 after the university concluded there was credible evidence he had engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member, violating university policy. On the same day, law enforcement detained Moore following an incident at the staffer’s residence that resulted in felony home invasion, misdemeanor stalking and entering without permission charges, all of which he denies.

Poggi, who stepped in as interim head coach following Moore’s departure, told reporters that many players have struggled to process the scandal as the team prepares for the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl against Texas on Dec. 31. He emphasized individual support, listening sessions and psychological care as priorities while acknowledging the situation is “a tumultuous time” for the team.
