Astronaut Victor Glover may be hundreds of thousands of miles away from home right now, but he’s proving that romance can still exist in outer space.
The Artemis II pilot is one of four crew members who are taking part in a 10-day journey to orbit the moon. Throughout their adventure, the crew has been in regular contact with NASA’s Mission Control team.
During a check-in on April 6, Glover had the opportunity to send a message to his wife, Dionna, and their four children. The moment occurred when Glover learned that his wife was with some of his NASA colleagues in a viewing gallery.
“She’s all smiles,” a colleague said.
An excited Glover responded, saying, “Well, you just got a bunch of cheers up here. Hey, babe.”
The astronaut went on to send a sweet message to his wife, saying, “I love you from the moon.”
Glover’s colleague acknowledged the romantic moment and said, “We love that we got a ‘Hey babe, too.'”
Glover then learned his wife wasn’t alone.
“We also have one of your lovely daughters here watching you guys work,” his colleague said.
“Thank you guys for doing that and for supporting them through this. To all of you — Genesis, Maya, Joia and Corinne — I love you. And Dionna, I love you. I’m glad you get to be there,” he responded.
Per NASA, Glover and his wife have been married for over two decades. Throughout their marriage, the couple and their children have lived in multiple states while Glover worked as a fighter pilot in the U.S. Navy. They also spent time in Japan.
Glover has captured the hearts of space lovers during his time on the Artemis II mission. During an interview with CBS News, Glover was asked if he had a message about the Easter holiday, and he shared an inspiring reflection about faith amid the vastness of the universe.
“I think maybe the distance we are from you makes you think what we’re doing is special, but we’re the same distance from you. And I’m trying to tell you, just trust me, you are special,” he said. “In all of this emptiness — this is a whole bunch of nothing, this thing we call the universe — you have this oasis, this beautiful place that we get to exist (in) together.”
