In 2014, Kingsman: The Secret Service debuted and made a splash with its uniquely sophisticated British action-comedy style. Beyond the fight scenes, the film also satirized the entire spy movie genre.
Recently, the team behind the success of the first installment wowed audiences once again with the sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle after three long years of waiting. Although spy stories are hardly a new topic, there is a reason why Kingsman still manages to captivate audiences so strongly.
Eggsy’s transformation into a true gentleman
Most viewers of the first film still regarded Eggsy as a trainee spy, even by the film’s ending, as he hadn’t yet left a lasting impression. Stepping into Kingsman 2, Eggsy proved he was no longer the impulsive kid he once was, but had grown into a true secret agent.
This change did not mean that Eggsy’s signature personality traits had disappeared; he still retained his warm-heartedness, sincerity, and sense of responsibility. These qualities were now expressed through the image of a mature man.
Sharper styling for the Kingsman agents
One of the other factors that contributed to the success of the Kingsman agents was their wardrobe and sense of style. Every smallest detail, from their glasses and shoes to their cravats and suits, was carefully and tastefully curated.
Kingsman stuck with the classic, aristocratic British look, while the Statesman agents followed the more casual, free-spirited style of American cowboys. Whether it was rugged cowboy outfits with jeans, leather jackets, cowboy hats, and boots, or refined gentlemen’s attire with dress shoes, tailored trousers, and vests, every costume worn by the characters left viewers in awe.
A loyal fan of both movies shared: “After watching Kingsman, I just want to wear suits and dress shoes every day because they look so classy.”
High-tech weapons

Speaking of spies, you can’t ignore their weapons and supporting gadgets. What fascinated audiences about Kingsman: The Golden Circle was that the scope of this sequel was no longer limited to England but expanded to America, so the gadgets and weapons were upgraded in creative, diverse ways.
If the “gentlemen” of Kingsman used elegant multifunctional weapons like umbrellas, rings, suitcases, watches, or lighters, then the “cowboys” of the Statesman wielded their own signature gear like tall boots, lassos, baseball bats, pistols — all turned into high-tech, near-magical weapons.
Spectacular action, epic music
Continuing the success of the previous film, Kingsman 2 once again delivered eye-popping action sequences. From the very first minutes, the film overwhelmed viewers with its dazzling combat scenes, car chases, and non-stop explosions.
What made Kingsman’s action scenes so outstanding was the artful staging, filming techniques, and special effects, which made even the slightly exaggerated fights still feel acceptable.
In addition, the soundtrack in Kingsman: The Golden Circle was another huge plus. The background music chosen to accompany each scene did an excellent job of guiding the story and amplifying audience emotions throughout the film.
A stellar cast

Kingsman: The Golden Circle featured the return of the powerful trio: Taron Egerton (Eggsy Unwin), Colin Firth (Harry Hart), and Mark Strong (Merlin). The film also boasted excellent female stars like Julianne Moore in the role of the sizzling villainess Poppy, and African-American actress Halle Berry as tech expert Ginger.
One cannot forget the Statesman agents, including Tequila played by the handsome Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal (Prince Oberyn Martell from Game of Thrones Season 4) as agent Whiskey, and veteran star Jeff Bridges as Champagne, the head of Statesman. In particular, Elton John’s role excited the music-loving community with his hilarious new character.
Each character had their own moments to shine, and they interacted smoothly throughout the film, delivering plenty of laughs even during intense action sequences.
“Kingsman 2” is like “Fast and Furious” meets “James Bond”
After a painfully long wait, Kingsman 2 was finally released. The film received both praise and criticism from audiences and film critics alike.
Although Kingsman: The Golden Circle was rated quite highly, in addition to its strong points there were also shortcomings that many viewers still found unsatisfying after watching.
Firstly, director Matthew Vaughn’s way of resolving conflicts had nothing new to offer and was too predictable. There were also some rather illogical plot points that left audiences scratching their heads — specifically, Harry Hart’s return from the dead. One viewer commented: “After getting shot through the head and still being able to survive normally? That’s too unrealistic.”

Secondly, due to an overuse of digital compositing techniques, many of the exterior shots, like the drug queen’s headquarters, looked fake.

It’s clear that after its premiere, despite investing heavily in visuals and casting, the second installment did not deliver any truly fresh highlights. Therefore, it lacked the same level of excitement and novelty as the first film:
“All the ingredients for success were there, but the final result lacked the thrill and freshness of its predecessor,” — according to Film Journal International.
