NEED TO KNOW
- Chris Briney has gained attention online for resembling a young Leonardo DiCaprio as himself and as his famous character Conrad from The Summer I Turned Pretty
- Fans of the young actor, 27, have swooned over his physical resemblance to the Oscar winner, 50, as well as their similar acting
- Prime Video, which streams TSITP, recently revealed that one of Briney’s scenes in season 3 was inspired by DiCaprio’s portrayal of Jack in Titanic
Since his debut in the hit show, The Summer I Turned Pretty (concluding on Sept. 17), Chris Briney has gone on to star in off-Broadway play Dilaria, step into the role of pop culture’s modern-day Aaron Samuels in the 2023 Mean Girls musical remake and has even become a regular at fashion’s hottest parties (he recently attended a star-studded celebration for Prada’s Paradigme fragrance). And to fans of the 27-year-old Pace University grad, his looks have earned him one more covetable status — Leonardo DiCaprio‘s doppelgänger.
Frankly, the conversation is hitting a very niche community of stans on social media — and has not been addressed by Briney or DiCaprio — but it’s happening nonetheless (since 2022, as a matter of fact). And after reading all the posts, we’re convinced that the two have more in common than what meets the eye, which actually, might be an understatement since the actors’ similarities in appearance is how we got here in the first place.
Briney and DiCaprio both inherent the physical qualities that make them heartthrob material — piercing eyes, hair that behaves at all times and a not-quite-there smile that can make you melt. However, it’s a specific scene in season 3 of TSITP that’s proving that the two got the chops and the charm that really drive their resemblance home.

In early September, Prime Video, which has been streaming the Jenny Han novel-inspired series since its debut in 2022, revealed that the bathtub interaction between Conrad (Briney) and Belly (Lola Tung) from episode 6 was, in fact, a nod to DiCaprio’s acting in Titanic, specifically the scene where Jack is sketching a nude portrait of Rose (Kate Winslet).
Though 28 years apart, the scenes convey two boys in love that are on the precipice of confessing — and acting on — said passion, which is very much down to Briney and DiCaprio’s ability to really make their viewers swoon. It also reminded one fan of DiCaprio’s starring role in 1996’s Romeo + Juliet.
“If I were told that Chris Briney is Leonardo DiCaprio’s son, I would believe it blindly,” one fan wrote (in Spanish) on X alongside photos of a fresh-faced DiCaprio and Briney in a quartet of really convincing photos.

All of that’s to say that we wouldn’t entirely be mad if Briney, say, played a young DiCaprio in a biopic or stepped into the shoes of one of the Oscar winner’s iconic roles. Who knows, maybe even a little bit of Hollywood magic might bring the two stars together, a project for which we’ll be sat and ready to devour.
