It was supposed to be a perfect night.
My boyfriend and I were lying in bed, wrapped in each other’s arms, laughing about our future together. The apartment was quiet, and the only light came from a small lamp in the corner of the room.
Then something caught my eye.
The bedroom door wasn’t completely closed.
Through the narrow gap, I saw what looked like a dark human silhouette standing perfectly still on the other side.
At first, I thought it was just my imagination.
I blinked.![]()
The shadow didn’t move.
I slowly asked my boyfriend if he had left the front door unlocked.
He looked confused and said no.
When I turned back toward the doorway…
The figure was gone.
My heart pounded so hard I could barely breathe.
My boyfriend grabbed a flashlight and searched every room in the apartment.
Nothing.
No one.
Every window was locked.
Every closet was empty.
He laughed nervously and told me it was probably just a trick of the light.
I wanted to believe him.
Then I noticed something that made my blood run cold.
The bedroom door…
Had slowly opened wider by itself.
From the hallway came the faint sound of footsteps.
Heavy.
Slow.
Getting closer.
Before we could react, the bedroom light suddenly went out.
My boyfriend rushed toward the switch, but someone grabbed him from the darkness.
I screamed.
The next thing I remember was waking up on the bedroom floor with police officers surrounding me.
Our apartment had been ransacked.
My boyfriend was gone.
Days later, detectives reviewed footage from a neighbor’s security camera.
A masked intruder had quietly slipped into our apartment nearly twenty minutes before I noticed the shadow behind the door.
He had been standing there…
Watching us the entire time.
