  • Adam Sandler was an immediate yes when asked to officiate Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding.
  • “He just wanted to speak from the heart and pass along a little wisdom that he’s gained from his own happy marriage,” a source told PEOPLE of his words during the ceremony.
  • Kelce and Swift tied the knot in front of hundreds of family and friends at Madison Square Garden on July 3.

Adam Sandler was thrilled to be cast in this extra-special role.

The actor and comedian, who officiated Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s star-studded wedding at Madison Square Garden on July 3, “said yes right away,” a source told PEOPLE, adding that Sandler “was incredibly honored to be part of such a special day.”

Sandler had known pop superstar Swift for years and gushed about her kindness to his family. “Taylor is so damn nice to my family and has always been,” he told Entertainment Tonight in 2025. “My kids have met Taylor a bunch of times over the years, and she’s ridiculously nice to them and warm.”

Meanwhile, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Kelce appeared in Sandler’s 2025 comedy Happy Gilmore 2. “Travis is such a gentle, nice guy, and funny as hell,” Sandler said in the same interview. “He’s like the guys I grew up with. When I was with Travis, it reminded me of my buddies in high school and just being able to laugh and say the things you want to say.”

The PEOPLE source added that Sandler was “perfect person” to take on the role in the newlyweds’ nuptials since he has “been happily married for so many years” to wife Jackie.

As for what Sandler spoke about, “he wasn’t trying to find the perfect words or make it this big production,” the source noted. “He just wanted to speak from the heart and pass along a little wisdom that he’s gained from his own happy marriage.”

Though the exact contents of Sandler’s officiating have not been revealed, Chiefs coach Andy Reid did mention one piece of advice the Billy Madison actor offered to the happy couple.

“In a simple, hysterical way, he was phenomenal,” Reid said during an event in Salt Lake City on July 5, local outlet The Desert News reported.“He’s crazy, but he did a great job in getting them married with a lot of humor. But, that part there I thought, pretty good advice, in its simplest form.”

“He told them, ‘Keep kissing,’” the coach continued.

“So, in its simplest form, that’s a good thing. It’s hard to argue when you give your wife a kiss, or your wife gives you a kiss. And make sure you do it every day, every minute that you have an opportunity to do it. Knock it out, and you won’t have problems.”

Less than 48 hours after officiating the wedding, Sandler was back on a basketball court in Nantucket, playing pickup games with the local kids.
